Does anyone else here work part-time, if so, how many hours are you working?
I'm currently working ten hours per week, Might cut them down when exam period comes around

Yeah, I only work usually 1 3-hour shift a week and sometimes a shift on the odd weekend for about 3-5 hours.

It does get quite difficult, you always feel like you're falling behind, well that's my opinion for sure, are you both gonna stop working towards exams?

Leading up to exams, probably not since my shift every week is short and gives me a nice break from school and studying all the time. But when we actually have exams I will take the time off.

I'm currently scheduled to work 7 hours a week until I finish my exams- even though I'm a casual. I get casual rates and part-time shift security; not leave and stuff though. I don't think I wanna cut down,  even during exam periods. 7 hours is very little compared to the amount of time we spend procrastinating per week. Also in my job, I usually work alone with not much customer interaction so I get time to think.

I think if you currently don't have a job, applying for some even right now is a good idea. In the summer, there's too many year 12s who try to find jobs. It will go a long way, having work experience.

It does get quite difficult, you always feel like you're falling behind, well that's my opinion for sure, are you both gonna stop working towards exams?

I used to work ~22 hours from January- March. It was very difficult leaving time for other things let alone studying and homework. It depends on your line of work. My job is very menial, so I'm always tired after a shift. ~12 hours is probably the maximum amount I would want to work during year 12.

11-12 hours, its all manageable on top of my co-curricular activities, uni and volunteering though. I need the money to pay my tutor and buy my food so I'm going to keep working haha

Sorry to comment in this thread but I have a question.

How do you manage your time to fit all of that in to your spare time, especially since I assume you're a high achiever from my thorough stalking.

I currently run track, have language school on Sunday's and have tuition for one subject which I find manageable. I've pretty much come to the conclusion that I won't be getting a part-time job now or during VCE. I have a feeling that I might regret this when I find a professional job after uni.

(I'm probably being too worried, lol).

off topic but what SAC and exam scores do you need for a raw 20 in methods?

please take me seriously :s I know a lot of you are aiming for 40+ but that's just not reality for me

I missed unit 1 and I was never really a star in maths anyway, so after a few bad decisions I ended up in methods 3/4 (if that's why you were wondering why I want a score so low...)

the plus side is that I'm doing well in all my other subjects and I'm banking on those, but even if all goes to plan I need at least 20 to do anything that interests me in uni :///

I didn't even know there were SS 20 pre reqs for methods, huh (thought they were all 25 or 30). I wouldnt worry anyway, 20 is quite achievable for you imho! Don't mean to come across as condescending, but if you've gone to the effort of posting on ATARnotes this much it shows that you care about school more than the average person. You can achieve it as long as you don't neglect the subject altogether and get your foundations of the subject down-pat.

edit: to actually answer your question instead of giving you a weak response, it'd probably be a D or D+ or something for your GAs (this is like 25% in the exams). i'm no genius at figuring out study score grade requirements, but the median is a B so I took a stab.

there are a lot of unis that specify 20 in any maths, but methods is the only maths I've got...

yeah, about the foundations.... not really

I lack a lot of the basic knowledge because I missed a whole unit and sort of just fell behind from there

I do what I can but I struggle

SAC marks aren't flash either... let's just say I'm ranked in the bottom 2 or 3 of the cohort

thanks anyway :)

Tbh I think I have an E for Unit 3...

If I get a D for Unit 4, maybe a D or C on the exam...?

I'm panicking about this so much that I'm almost too scared to approach my methods work lol? I know it sounds a little backwards but yeah...

Your position is definitely a difficult one (especially have missed a unit of the subject), but if you've already exhausted all your normal avenues (seeing you teacher for extra help, questions thread on atarnotes, online tutorials, etc.) it's a matter of not giving up hope in the subject. Certainly, methods can be a very difficult subject. I personally struggle a lot with many worded questions, and there are so many people that just seem to get it instantly. That being said, I wouldn't adopt the attitude that because you know it'll be a bottom 2 subject that you stop trying. If you do all your set homework and work on the areas you know your struggle with, I don't see any reason why you shouldn't be able to achieve your 20. Remember that the bell curve works both ways, too. Best wishes!

edit: You posted midway through, but I wouldn't worry too much about your unit 3 grade. methods is a subject more reliant on your exam performance anyway! The crux of what I'm trying to say above essentially boiled down to not adopting a negative attitude, which I'm sure you're capable of overcoming if you are doing well in your other subjects like you said! Find your motivation and don't expect to be able to get every question right. From now until the exam, it doesn't matter at all how many mistakes you make and for every one that you do, it is simply a learning experience of one less you'll make at a later point.
