Commerce: Industry Based Learning Program unit - worthwhile?

Hey all,

Was just looking at enrolment for the last unit I have on the commerce side of my degree when I found this one:

http://www.monash.edu.au/pubs/2014handbooks/units/BEX3006.html

Has anyone done this unit / a unit like this or knows more about how it works? It sounds kinda interesting although there's not a lot of information about it (e.g. what type of work they'll have you doing, for whom, how many hrs, how it's assessed, where would it be etc.)

thanks

I'm actually doing this unit over summer. I haven't received any of the unit information just yet. I'll let you know what the unit guide and material are like when I have access to them.

From my understanding, you just have to write an essay detailing your experiences.

In terms of work, you can either find an internship yourself, or get the faculty to try and find you a placement somewhere (I chose the former; secured vacation work, then got it approved by the faculty).

I received an email about this unit but unfortunately I couldn't do it because by the time I knew of it, all my commerce electives had been used up D:

I think it would be a great unit to pic because you get to do hands on experience in an actual field of commerce. If you aren't sure whether you want to work in commerce, use this subject as a trial to help you make your decisions

Thanks for the replies,

that assessment doesn't sound too bad, though I haven't got anything sorted in terms of an internship so I'll have to look into that a bit more. Seems like a good idea though overall in terms of getting an internship credited as a unit.

my friends have done this unit already and all they did was  their vacation work had to keep a diary and also make a presentation infront of the lecturer.

its a worthwhile easy unit if u have already done all the units u need for major or units your interested in. its basically a good filler subject. Also most ppl in commerce do vacation programs anyways regardless of this unit so you might as well convert it into credits.
