Overseas Exchange Help

Hey everyone I made this thread: Overseas exchange for com/eng? about a week ago and have run into some issues again.

For the short version: does anyone know if you need the 72 credit points by the time you submit your study plan (November 30th) or by the time you submit your formal application (January 31st)?

Slightly longer version: Two advisors told me I am eligible (Study Abroad and Engineering) one is telling me I am not (business and economics) last email.

I have emailed monash abroad and gotten a response say that I am eligible

Hi,

You should meet the eligibility requirements at the time of your Monash Abroad application submission deadline, which is 31st January 2014 for exchange in semester 2, 2014.

Please read the application procedure on http://monash.edu/study-abroad/outbound/apply/

Thanks

Engineering faculty exchange advisor said the same:

Dear,

In order to be able to go on exchange you will need to have completed three semesters (72 credit points) of your single or double engineering degree at the time of application. Many students participate in the exchange program in their third year but undertake much of the planning and preparation for the exchange experience during their second year of study.

In your case, you would be eligible to submit your StudyPlan at the end of sem 2-2013. When you commence your planning, I will be able to provide you with a listing of pre-approved units which would help in setting up your study plan.
Regards,

but the business and economics advisor is telling me I am ineligible:

Hi,
unfortunately, you are ineligible to apply to study abroad during semester 2,2014.

Com/Eng students must have successfully completed a minimum of 72 credit points of study at the point of application. Under no circumstances is a study plan conditionally  approved pending results release.
kind regards
Joe

Hi Joe,

Thanks for your email. I was informed that the 72 points must be completed by the time of application (January 31st) and not the due date of the study plan - shown in the two emails below. Also when I spoke to the engineering exchange advisor she made no mention of my ineligibility to submit a study plan at this time. Could you please clarify this?

Thanks

Hi,
definitely a requirement that must be satisfied at the point of application. This has always been enforced by the faculty and openly published on the Monash abroad website in the following terms and applies to combined Com/Eng students:

Faculty requirements:

Students must complete 72 credit points of their Monash course at the time of application, except for students going to Monash Malaysia on intercampus exchange who must complete 48 credit points.

I don't know much about it..but if you're a student of the engineering faculty you need 72 points before applying...few people answered the same question on the stalkerspace..

You're eligible. The website he's talking about is here, and applies to the formal application date set by Monash Abroad, not the study plan thing. My advice in dealing with Monash bureaucracy is to bounce positive responses off people and make them deal with each other if they disagree. "Monash Abroad said it's okay, here's my application. Contact X if you need to." Also, try to avoid dealing with this Joe guy as much as you can from now.

I hate Monash bureaucracy and it's an absolute crock of bullshit. But if you can find one or two staff members who know what the fuck they're doing and will help you, latch onto them like your life depends on it and be damn nice and grateful about it. I went through a lot of shit because my exchange program was cancelled after I'd already arrived at my host university (2011 Tohoku Disaster in Japan).
