What can I do before year 12 starts?

Hey guys.
I'm eager to do the best I can next year and I know the summer holidays are a great time to start learning and shouldn't be wasted.
Sooo what could any of you suggest to do before I start Literature/during the year?
What can I do on the holidays that would be beneficial? I will definitely read my texts! But is there anything else?

I'm picking up literature so is there anything I can do that might help me catch up a bit/make me feel not so disadvantaged/more confident? :)
Anything else that might be helpful would be appreciated too. Thanks!

NUMBER ONE MAJOR MUST DON'T-LOOK-PAST! Read the texts no matter what! And try read them more than once, annotate, read up on them and try and have your own interpretation, what texts are you doing out of curiosity?

I would also recommend expanding your vocab, I'd say 5 new words a week that you can use in every day sentences. Even if they're as simple as, say, 'calamitous' and 'tumultuous' instead of terrible/bad. Those little things makes writing articulate essays all the better.

The fact your dedicated enough to even make this thread exemplifies your effort! I'm sure you'll be fine. Don't forget to rest. Take a good solid 3 weeks off to get ready for the hell of a ride year 12 is. However, I'm sure you'll kill it!

Good luck!  ;)
2013: [aiming] Revs (40), Lit (40)... I can dream, Australian Hist (38) , Art (35), Global Politics (35)

-will be posting my notes after my last exams if anyone is interested-

What would I annotate about the texts? (Demonstrates my lack of Lit knowledge already ;) )

I'm doing
-Dark Roots
-The Cat's Table
-Bacchae & Other Plays

I'm pumped but nervous at the same time haha. Will take 3 weeks off like you said though :P
Where would I get new words? Just select everyday words like 'good' and 'bad' and find synonyms for them and use them instead?

I don't really see the value in annotations (that's just me personally, I don't go over my SACs with highlighters or put little tabs in my textbooks either) beyond maybe being a good way to collect your thoughts. So if you stumble upon something during your first reading that strikes you as significant that you don't want to forget or might want to bring up in a future essay, maybe highlight it or ink a thought next to it.
A neat way to expand your vocab is to suss out some critical articles on your texts and see how the experts phrase things. It's not just good for feeding you exotic words, it's really helpful for teaching you how to formulate your ideas and engage with the text. Your teacher will probably have a stock of these somewhere as prep material for the considering alternate viewpoints SAC.
But like you said, and as maddimarvel said: read your texts! All of them! I promise you - you will not get the chance to/it will be a struggle to read them during the school year.

Besides reading your texts (and any other books, reading is always good) I wouldn't stress about preparing in any other way.

In the holidays I started compiling notes and forming interpretations. That said, the amount of time you want to invest is up to you. Just make sure you read/ watch your texts.
