What can I do before year 12 starts?

Hey guys.
I'm eager to do the best I can next year and I know the summer holidays are a great time to start learning and shouldn't be wasted.
Sooo what could any of you suggest to do before I start legal /during the year.
What can I do on the holidays that would be beneficial?

Any topics I should start learning earlier?
I'm picking it up this year so is there anything I could do that could make me feel less disadvantaged/more confident?
Anything else that might be helpful would be appreciated too. Thanks!

If you want a head start, get a copy of the study design and work your way through that. You have plenty of time throughout the year though, so don't feel the need to get everything done. If I were you, I'd really just read the first few chapters of your prescribed textbook. There isn't any point rushing through the content just for the sake of it. Really have a clear understanding of each topic/chapter before moving on. Perhaps consider getting a study group together, or getting someone else to test you along the way.

If you haven't done Legal before, I suggest you put together a really good glossary. One of the biggest obstacles people face is that they don't know what some really fundamental things are.

To get you started:

- parliament
- the (executive) government
- judiciary
- constitution
- governor-general
- cabinet
- ministers
- electorate
- prosecution
- plaintiff
- verdict
- empanelment
- precedent
- statute
- legislation
- common law
- remedy
- sanction
- tribunal
- democracy

Trust me, this will make the content so much easier!

There are other terms, too; I'm sure other people will have suggestions :)

Start reading  'note' books like Legal Notes or A+ Notes - they are really helpful later on.
Also go to the Engage Kickstart lectures. The guy who takes knows what he's on about - and the resources will help you further down the track.

Good luck for next year - it's a great subject :)
VCE SUBJECTS

If you need tips on applying to the UK (esp Oxford) message me, I'm more than happy to help out :)

I was just reading the study guide and it made me nervous. i have no idea about any of it (I know that's the point of taking the subject; to learn) but I feel kinda out of my depth/don't know how much I'll enjoy it;especially the first unit.

Edit*
I've been watching youtube videos (like, revision ones haha) and I like watching them. So guess that's a good sign!

Don't worry about it. I actually picked up legal half way through term 1 without doing units 1/2 and i felt exactly how you feel. Its a very do-able subject however, personally it depends on how your teacher approaches it. You'll enjoy it if you have a good teacher.

There are two classes next year running, one of them is being taught by someone I don't want, so hopefully I'm in the other class.
Thanks, gave me a confidence boost :)

Asides from Megan's glossary which I'll also do, are there anymore activities or anything? I want to get half or so of the course under my belt as it's a 'content heavy' course, so the more I learn earlier the better in the hope I retain it :)
My VCE 2014 Goal is to not end consciousness ... and a respectable ATAR.
