How many take IT seriously?

Out of the ~2000 students that took the subject this year, how many would actually take it seriously and study hard for it? I've been told to not worry as much because a lot of students may take it as a bludge subject that they need not to study for, though I'm not sure.

Alrighty here is my (highly prejudiced) opinion
I take (took) school pretty seriously and I was prepared to take softdev seriously until I realised how horrible my teacher was and how subjective the subject was (also how much common sense was the major discriminating factor in grades). The textbook treats a lot of contextual stuff as stuff you need to remember (e.g. if visual impairment is something I need to consider, the case study will let me know; I don't need to put that in my notes). I made notes for unit 3 and kept telling myself I was going to make some for unit 4 but simply couldn't be bothered; I did the mobile constraints section of unit 4 and just thought 'more common sense stuff'. Also I had a firm grasp on VB and programming in general coming into the subject so I never struggled with that. And yeah I heard about how horribly everybody does on the exam and how 95 percent gave somebody a 50 in a previous year, so I was thinking 'bottom 2 subject, wing the exam and see how far your minimal study efforts can take you'. I did very well in the exam from what I've seen (I believe I got 20/20 in MC) and this is partly due to going through some unit 4 notes from a friend (silverpixeli) the night before and on the day

So that was me rambling for a bit, anyway I believe very few of the people who take the subject take it seriously: some people start off with no intention to study and some people (like myself) eventually work out that studying is not nearly as beneficial as it is subjects like chem, physics, math etc.

My teacher was lousy and didn't really cover all of the course. However I picked it up as it came closer to the exam and learned most of the course in ~3 weeks and I believe that I ended up doing fairly well on the exam.

I had a similar situation to you, man. There's maybe 4 of us in my class that took it seriously. I worked fairly hard on my SACs though, and averaged between 94% - 97%, but due to my teacher not covering all of the course, I made my own notes and used vceit.com as my "bible" (although, ironically, I'm not religious). The exam was pretty great, though. I'm really happy because I studied way more content than I needed, and although a lot of it was useless, it calmed me down to the point that I could confidently walk into the exam knowing that I was prepared.

My school is highly academic, and thus our SACs are made way harder than normal. This probably lead to the slightly lower scores achieved by all - ~80%.
So, do SACs get scaled up considering their difficulties and complexities from some schools?

About 2/10 took the subject seriously during the year in my class.
Rank 1 and 2 got 90%+ on all the sacs while the rest of the class got 60-75%.

This sounds great in reality as it is a competition, however I'm doubting my exam performance quite a bit.
I think I got 17/20 for multiple choice, and the rest I predict I got correct apart from half the algorithms
I know A+ cut offs are low, but I'm thinking I only scored 80-85% on the exam

If your rank 1 your sacs will get scaled up, if your any other rank your sacs will get scaled up if you and your cohort do better in the exam than sacs I believe..

Does anyone have the official number of people enrolled in IT SD?
Because 2000 to me seems like to many students for IT, last few years have been lower at around 1500

Study scores are relative.

If less people take the unit, there are less 50's distributed, and vice versa.

When I did SD in 2011 I thought wow I'm the only one in my class trying, this will be a breeze. It turns out when you take the top one or two students from each school who does SD  and throw them into a list, it's still the same difficulty to get 40+.
