Roll Call 2008 Revs
« on: January 02, 2008, 12:04:36 pm »

Hello there,

I am doing Revs this year.
We do the French and Russian revolutions.

Does anyone have any hints, tips, gripes to share?

I have heard that France is difficult due to the huge amount of individual events.

Hi Lisa, i'm on the internet on my mobile so i'm not sure whether this message will work but here goes. I did revolutions and absolutely loved it. It is an extremely rewarding, fascinating and interesting subject if you are willing to be an inquisitive, hard working and dedicated student. It certainly is not a subject for the faint hearted.  I completed the American and French revolutions.  America was often straight forward in nature due to the simplicity of the events and details, yet it is important to go beyond a peripheral and basic understanding and search for a deeper meaning in regards to the events that occurred.  France was definately more challenging any many of the lecturers said that it was the most complex and content heavy revolution.  The French revoltion can often be daunting due to the myriad of content that must be learnt and analysed, yet if dealt with in a systematic manner, it is more than managable.  You will find the content of area of study two for France the most difficult in terms of the amount of content.  You must also be able to become familiar with a range of French terms which pop up along the way.  I actually prepared  an advice thread for Revs early in December which I never got around to posting.  I will post it when I get back from holidays on January 15.  I'll be visiting an internet cafe tomorrow to post a list of holiday pointers for this subject.  I hope this will be adequate for the time being.  Given that I am on my mobile phone, I hope this posts.

Thanks Nick,

I have heard from the people who did it last year that it is alot of work and from a friend who always tries to cram, said that it is a subject that you cannot do that due to enourmous amount of material. The ones who made sure they kept up with it, did all the reading seemed to love it.

Enjoy the remainder of your holiday - I am just about to go on one. Be assured, this is more than adequate.

just make sure from early in the year you start learning historians opinions-as this is the hardest bit for the exam.

Good luck comrades... lol. Yea, it is a lot of work, so don't fall behind otherwise you will regret it. Don't try to ROTE learn quotes, try to full understand their point of view, and extra reading helps.

China and America tend to be the least common revolutions, while France/Russia is the most popular combination.
