ATAR: 72.15

I'm 99.95% sure I did the worst on these forums. So hopefully, you can laugh at my pathetic-ness and feel better about yourselves.

"Worst" really isn't something you can measure here. The only reason why the ATAR has any significance at all is that it allows you to get into some particular course. If you're not happy with your results, just keep in mind that there are a number of different pathways to get into uni and a multitude of options are still available to you. No one here is going to think of you as pathetic.

You aren't the "worst" objectively. Here on the forums we have high scorers represented very disproportionately.

Objectively your ATAR is a very good one and provided it moves you in the direction you need to go that's all that matters.

No ones is laughing at you or thinks you are pathetic, I congratulate you on your achievement as I do all school leavers. If we judged you on an ATAR then we would be pricks.

Worst?
I got 67.40, yeah I'm disappointed, but I'm not going around saying "I'm 99.95% sure I did the worst on these forums".
You did well!

My boyfriend got an atar or 52.4 and is shattered. I'm doing my best but he feels so worthless.
He's going to the army so doesn't need an atar but he's down in the dumps badly.
Any suggestions?
Definitely not the worst. Congrats.

I got a 75.60 and I'm very happy. You should be happy with that effort. A course with 72 ATAR doesn't make you any more worthless than a person doing a 90 ATAR course. Things could be worse. Build on that 72 ATAR and prove that your ATAR doesn't matter.

I got 89.55 but my english scaled to 29.93 :(
Does this rule out all courses that need a 30 in english?

University prereqs use the raw score, so you should be fine. Also most courses ask for "A study score of at least 30 in English (ESL) or at least 25 in any other English". This is saying that they want a 25 in mainstream English (or English Language or Literature). If you did English as a Additional/Second Language (ESL or EAL, whatever abbreviation you prefer), then they want a 30.

No. The prerequisites are raw scores. You're fine.

In the end guys, the ATAR is simply an irrelevant number that doesn't reflect who you truly are. don't let your ATAR define yourself. If you got an ATAR lower than what you did for university you may have to spend a few more years getting into whatever course you want to study, but in the long-term a year or two doesn't really matter in the grand scope of things.

Your ATAR does not define how successful you will be in your life. Getting a crappy ATAR does not mean you are stupid. Some people who get extremely high ATARs have failed subjects at university for slacking off and some of those are didn't get as high are smashing the hell out of everything when they reach uni. Perhaps you can ask yourself about how you studied this year and how you should adjust your study habits in the future. But don't let your ATAR become a symbol of failure because it is not.

What?! For perspective, I had a major disability for ~7 years when I was younger, it landed me in the emergency ward several times. And passing VCE was still the hardest thing I ever did; twice as hard as any of my medical complications. The pressure is insane, the expectations from others are wild, all your friends become nervous wrecks and students are pitted against each other like gladiators in a Roman Colosseum. Sleepless nights, trying to multitask the very challenging task of transitioning from adolescence to adulthood while conceiving the idea that your 66% of your ATAR is determined in a matter of a few hours.  You should be tremendously proud of even completing VCE, and completing it to an above average standard, at that. All ATARs posted here show potential; if you've even obtained an ATAR, any ATAR, you have your foot in the door. If you're not content with a course offer, end of first year transfers don't even take into account ATARs, and universities are generous with advanced standing if subject content is similar when you're applying for credit. You're all champions for not only improving your education, but improving your strength of will and the fire of your tenacity.

I got a 72.50. I was disappointed but then decided to view it as me beating 72% of the state. It definitely makes things better when you look at things from that perspective... the cup half full kind of way.

An ATAR score of 72.15 is not a bad score at all. Sure it's not the highest score you'll ever see but it's still clearly above the average ATAR. You're score means you got within the top 28% of the state which is a fine achievement. For example if approximately 47,000 people received their score then you have beaten about 33,910 students along the way and you'll be ranked at approximately 13090 out of 47,000 students. Those who receive an ATAR of 90 or above are ranked within the top 5000 at the very least.

My advice to you and anyone who feels a little disappointed about their score is that you shouldn't let it get to you so much and that anything is still possible if you're willing to work hard for it. Last year I completed the VCE and I received an ATAR of 77.20. Initially I was a little disappointed but when I put things into perspective, I turned out to be very proud of my efforts. After receiving my score and selecting my course preferences I was offered the opportunity to complete Bachelor of Arts at Deakin University with the intention to transfer into Law at the end of 2013. For this to be possible I required distinction(70+) averages over my 8 units and I did this successfully with an average of 77.25% over my 8 units. I therefore applied for a transfer to study Bachelor of Arts/Law starting in 2014 at Deakin and only just two weeks ago I was accepted and I'm ecstatic to be given this opportunity.

My point is that anything is still possible no matter what and that an ATAR score is only a starting point to where you go next in your life. I wish you luck in your future endeavours along with anyone else who received their score today.
