Written communication: 36
Maths/science/tech: 37
Humanities/art/social sciences: 45

Was surprised by the third result, just cool to know I finished in the top 2% on "raw ability" for something.

Information about it here http://www.vcaa.vic.edu.au/pages/vce/exams/gat/index.aspx It's a standardised test in June with two writing tasks and a stack of multiple choice questions on general knowledge stuff. You don't need to do extra study for it, just to rock up and do the exam. Everyone that does a 3/4 subject needs to take it.

so if I'm doing two 3-4 subjects next year, i have to take it?  I also heard something like it can contribute to your ATAR, is this true?

Yes
I also heard something like it can contribute to your ATAR, is this true?
From the VCAA website:
Quote
The VCAA will use students’ GAT scores as a basis for:
contributing to statistical moderation of school-based assessment results
checking the accuracy of examination marking
calculating the Derived Examination Scores.
The GAT is mainly used if you can't do an exam because you're extremely sick or injured etc. to derive an exam score for your SS. Other than that, it doesn't really do much. It can ONLY approve your ATAR but it would be marginally.

and I had a cold on the day too.
ended up with a 88.95 atar, sigh. Not sure whether to feel depressed or take it as an indication of a hopeful future.

HOPEFUL! That is amazing!

These results are all very interesting. Back in the sepia toned days I received 45 on Written Communication, 46 on Humanities/Arts/Social Sciences, and 33 on Mathematics/Science/Technology, and now I'm in a Bachelor of Science rofl  ??? ??? Do what you love~

Correlation between GAT scores and study scores/ATAR: very strong positive correlation

2013

Written Communication: 36
Mathematics/Science/Technology: 49
Humanities/Arts/Social Sciences: 47

2012

Written Communication: 42
Mathematics/Science/Technology: 47
Humanities/Arts/Social Sciences: 42

Hmm. Firstly, has my mind changed THAT much over the last two years?
Secondly, it's comforting that with such a low score in the essay part of the GAT, I could still get my study scores.
Next time someone says that the GAT matters (excluding derived scores), I'm going to stare at them.
2012
Mathematical Methods (50) Chinese SL (45~52)

2013
English Language (50) Chemistry (50) Specialist Mathematics (49~54.9) Physics (49) UMEP Physics (96%) ATAR 99.95

2014-2016: University of Melbourne, Bachelor of Science, Diploma in Mathematical Sciences (Applied Maths)

2017-2018: Master of Science (Applied Mathematics)

2019-2024: PhD, MIT (Applied Mathematics)
