Any difference transferring between or within unis?

My lower than expected ATAR means that I can get an offer for Monash BCom but not Melbourne BCom. Going to Monash Clayton will require 3 hours plus of driving each day so I'm not really keen on going there. When I rang Melbourne Uni they suggested I consider doing a Bachelor of Arts with a major in Economics and then transfer to BCom in semester 2. My other option is to do a Bachelor of Business (Economics and Finance) Applied at RMIT and then transfer to Melb if my grades are good enough. Is it easier to transfer within a campus and therefore the BA at Melb is my best option or doesn't it matter? If it makes no difference, I'd rather do the RMIT course because I don't really enjoy writing essays.....

No difference for melb in regards to transfers. Both internal and external applicants apply through vtac - and both require an approximate hurdle requirement of 75 average through 1st year (units).

I do highly recommend rmit's eco/fin course as it provides you with a lot of employable skills that employers love. This is something melb and other research intensive unis (ie. monash) overlook. For example, the excel; database and myob skills taught at rmit was invaluable in getting me a starting job in the finance/accounting field. Melbourne on the other hand, focuses more on academic research and less on teaching students practical skillsets that can be used in a workplace environment.
