seriously considering deactivating, not so much to study, but simply cbf facebook, my facebook has lots of drama and my newsfeed is always the same stuff, sometimes i wonder what life was like in the pre-facebook years

basically i was wondering, if you have deactivated - how has it gone for you? tell me everything :P
and also - what are your thoughts on deactivating also - whether you have or havent

I deactivated mine couple of times...my Facebook was deactivated for 3 days last time...hopefully I can make that duration a week next time...seriously though, I don't like Facebook...all it does is to show you that you actually have a social life...but you actually don't...

I was addicted , I mean , ADDICTED , to Facebook in year 8-9.
Then in Year 10 , I was like , "Nupp, this is affecting me and my studies" , so I deactivated.
Didn't really use it , and got it back now :)

The hardest part for me was to stop myself from reactivating again :P

Good luck! :)

well, can't really talk from experience, but i can speak on behalf of a friend. She deactivated her account, and got a 99.50, and never had to worry about the drama of year 12. She said for the most part, her year was calm and peaceful. My 2 cents
sounds promising haha

this also sounds promising - just to clarify, did you have it deleted from years 10 through to the end of vce? how did it affect your social life if at all?

ty for your responses thus far

I have gone through phases of deactivating it… I only reactivated it last week actually.  Usually I deactivate it if I'm feeling depressed because I spend too much time on it wasting my life… both times for the same reason, both times after I deactivated it I basically just didn't even think about it again.  Both time, travel sparked the reactivation - I would meet heaps of new people whilst travelling that I didn't want to lose contact with and Facebook seems to be the thing these days.   But actually the cool thing about deactivating (if you can refrain from logging in again) is that it keeps all your stuff, so if you decide you want a break for a few months or a year or whatever you can get everything back afterwards.
I think it would be SO WISE to quit FB during your year 12 year (preferably forever, but it DOES have its uses).  You just kinda have to use it in moderation…. I don't post that many statuses (two a week maybe, max) and just kind of use it to maintain a bit of an idea of what old friends are up to… but honestly most of the time its seriously boring as batshit and full of people who I met like 10 years ago a handful of times and for some reason the people I actually give a shit about a) I either see regularly or b) never post anything.  Anyway thats my blab.  I recommend deactivating it, especially if you're busy.  If you're not busy, then boredom will tempt you to reactivate.

Yesh I did ! :)
Didn't really affect my social life muuuch! Because all the friends I had , I saw at school , or we caught up through email or by phone.
But I lost contact with a few distant friends! :(

I deactivated it once, not because of all the drama (I liked a bunch of vine pages so pretty much my news feed was all vines and less drama, though I blocked all those drama people) but because, literally once every week I would log on and only to find that someone had tried hacking to my account somewhere in the world (someone tried hacking from Jamaica one). Every time that would happen I would have to create a new password until after resetting my password like 50 times or so I just quit =.=
Though ever since I reactivated it nothing has happened.....for now (i'm watching you Jamaica).

Can't recommend it. It's very, very easy to reactivate, you'll do it without thinking. And honestly, if you're the type of person who gets distracted by things like facebook (like me), you'll just find something else to plug the distraction hole left by facebook - like tv or games or (again, like me) twitter.

I deactivate every exam period and deactivated for a bit longer during Year 12. If you can't be fucked with Facebook, deactivating might be healthier than lingering around out of habit :P

I deleted my account in year 12 because i knew deactivating it won't help (with several more buttons, I could reactivate it!) I created a new account and added everyone back after year 12 :)

I never deactivated mine during VCE. As long as you aren't addicted to it and can balance study and leisure time, it's fine :)
