Not meeting the prerequisites for a course

Time is running out and I still don't know what exactly I want to do next year! :/ Recently (i.e. yesterday) I've become interested in pursuing a career in engineering (sci/eng at Monash), however I don't meet the prerequisites (25 in chem or physics). Will I be able to do science at Monash then transfer into the double degree? Also, would that make me ineligible for Monash's engineering scholarship? I think I meet the ATAR cutoff, but I doubt it's possible since I wont be commencing it at the beginning of next year and I didn't get an offer. Or is it possible to get straight into the double degree and use electives for some sort of foundation units to make up for my lack of physics/chem? :)

I think it is impossible to get into a course without meeting its pre-reqs . Are you sure the science degree doesn't require 25 in chem or methods? You can study science with some engineering units in your first year and then if you have a good average you can then transfer into engineering.

For Monash's Bachelor of Science I need a 25 in an English and 25 in one of "Biology, Chemistry, Geography, Maths: Mathematical Methods (CAS), Maths: Specialist Mathematics, Physics or Psychology" which I meet.

Does it mean that I'll start second year after transferring or will I have to start the double degree from first year? And is it possible to transfer after semester one or only after first year?

Also, what exactly is a "bridging course"?

You still wont be able to transfer if you dont meet the prerequisites. A "bridging course" is rssentially a VCE equivelant of the subject studied at uni and is designed to help students meet the prereq vce subject required for a course AT THAT UNI. (A different uni may not accept the subject as a suitable replacement for a vce subject - consult the uni you want to transfer into regarding this).

Seriously?!?! I won't be able to transfer at all? :( So what would be the quickest way to get into the course I want? What if I take a bridging course? How long will that take? Thanks for answering my questions by the way, I'm such a mess right now haha.

I see you have spesh so as far as im aware, you enrol in bachelor of science, and in your electives do foundation chemistry and/or foundation physics, then after first semester if your grades are really good and you got a good atar and theres a spot you can transfer into engineering, otherwise just keep your grades high and re apply every semester :P
or you could do the B.Sc --> M.Eng pathway at melbourne, this could also potentially be a backup if you dont manage to transfer
the choice is yours :P

Bridging courses are just single subjects that you can choose as an elective as part of your degree - so you complete it in 1st yr as part of your 1st semesyer subjects. It is NOT AN EXTRA subject you do on top of your degree.

So for example, melbourne's bridging course for VCE maths methods is called "fundamentals of (or introduction to - i forget) mathematics. It allows kids without methods pre-req from say arts or b.environments to study methods and allow them to transfer/complete majors that require methods prerequisites.

Rather than foundation physics or chem, you might want to do  two of eng materials, structures, computing or dynamics as your electives...then you can transfer into mechanical, chem, civil etc

Thank you all for your responses. :) I have just one more question. If I were to do a B.Sc at Monash and choose my units accordingly, would I be able to transfer into the middle of the double degree or have to start it from the beginning? I know some units can be credited but in reality, how much extra time could potentially be added onto the degree? I'm willing to do whatever it takes but I'm considering another alternative pathway and trying to weigh up my options. :)

edit:  I just realised I didn't read the thread carefully enough, you didn't mention Melbourne at all. Sorry about that

however I don't meet the prerequisites (25 in chem or physics)
You can get into UoM BSc with the Methods/Spesh combination and no sciences.

"Prerequisites: Units 3 and 4: a study score of at least 30 in English (EAL) or 25 in English other than EAL; and a study score of at least 25 in one of Maths: Mathematical Methods (CAS) or Maths: Specialist Mathematics; and a study score of at least 25 in one of Biology, Chemistry, Maths: Mathematical Methods (CAS), Maths: Specialist Mathematics or Physics." (as stated http://coursesearch.unimelb.edu.au/undergrad/1510-bachelor-of-science  and http://www.vtac.edu.au/CourseSearch/searchguide.htm?courseCode=3800538271)

You'd have to take foundation/bridging courses and such for the science courses, but the maths subjects would be accessible.
