As a minimum, how many chapters of the book and wide reading i should do to get a sufficient headstart by the start of the year?

I have tried getting a headstart before, just to see what it was like, and did this in year 9 with Surds. What tended to happen was that, because having already covered the unit i thought i didn't have to do as much work in class. I think others can relate? you just have that tendency not to do as good as you would've if this UNIT WAS 100% NEW, if you kinda understand me here?

Yes, that tends to be the problem as you become lazy as well since you know that you have already done the work! (Well that happened to me anyway!)

I would say in the holiday do 2 chapters max in this case. You want to be ahead but also not too far that you drive yourself bored. The first chapter should be easy so that shouldn't take too long.

Would you reccomend doing questions in 1.1, 1.2 etc or just chapter summary?

Also should I start on making notes per chapter?

I personally didn't do anything over the holidays to get a headstart. But if you are really keen, then I would say definitely print off the study design and read through it. Lightly read through the textbook just to familiarise yourself with key ideas.

Some tips;
-learn your definitions ! This will be invaluable come exam time.
-read the questions being asked ! You would be surprised how many people just write down memorised answers, which do not directly address the question
-don't leave notes till September school holidays !

Good luck !

Hey, Thanks for that :)

In regards to the study design, should i print it off, or is a digital copy enough? like on my iPad or comp.

Also, do you recommend me reading through the whole study design, even for all my 6 subjects, or just the first aos for each one, to know what I'm dealing with.

Hey, no worries(:
Whatever works best for you, doesn't matter. For me, our teacher gave us a copy of it printed off, which worked well for me. I don't like digital documents, so hard copy stuff works best for me. And I also didn't have access to a computer/technological device 24/7 so a hard copy was more practical for me.
Use whatever you're more likely to find convenient.

For business, what I did was I read through the chapter first. Then I read through the key knowledge points of the study design that related to the chapter I had just read. I then went and reread the chapter and highlighted the information relevant to the study design dot points and made notes from them. Don't make notes by chapter because the chapters have a lot of information that is not important.

Just concentrate on further & business this year, don't worry about your other 4. You'll forget everything you studied this year for them by  next year most likely. I've been told not to bother with study designs for maths, but I don't know if this is the best idea. I would still have a flick through them if I were you, and I will be doing this to. The study designs will be your best friend this year, I promise !

No worries(: I hope it works for you !
Yes, and we covered specific organisations in class too. I tended to use the organisations that I studied in class instead of actual examples from the media..however, if you can get your hands on some examples you should definitely use them ! Examples are what seperate your answers from the good to the very good. However, use with caution..don't let an example 'become' your answer.
Looking at real life organisations and linking them back to your answer, especially in the exam, will ensure that you get full marks for a question, as it will not look like you have just written down a rote learned response. However, in saying that, don't stress too much about this, because in most exam questions you will be given a scenario and have to use examples from that ! So yes, if you can find real life examples, by all means go ahead, but if you can't don't stress !
Make sure you know 2 or 3 in great detail though. A popular type question in the exam is 'Using an organisation you have studied this year..'. Our school chose CUB (Carlton united breweries) & Australia Post, so this is what I used..and related it back to almost every question. Ask if you need anything else !

Thats not a bad idea actually. As far as i know, we are doing Yakult and going to the factory.

In regards to holiday hw, should AOS1 be a good start? i will do this thoroughly or at least try to, so i can be ready for the first sac. Since business tends to be a rote learning and content heavy subject i might forget crap if i go ahead haha.

Good idea? any suggestions?

That seems like a good idea! If you have time, go on the Yakult website and start gathering information on how they produce Yakult. As I also did a sac on it and it took a while to gather information and then having to use it in my practice sacs. That's if you are very keen on starting very early! Good luck.

What information do you look for?  How they impact on the economy, what else?

Sorry, did not check this thread for updates.

But what Bluesgirl has said is spot on, regarding organisations and examples.

My school did CUB for operations and went to the factory, but it is never too late to start preparing notes because this will be your most time consuming activity during the school year, and most of the time you won't have time to just sit and make notes, since they take forever and also with the craziness of your other subjects.

AOS 1 is definitely more than good enough, and yes, it is not a wonderful idea to go too far ahead because this can lead to becoming complacent in class which will negatively affect you and also you will forget things which means that you will have to relearn things, which will just be an overall waste of time. So don't jump too far ahead into the course just yet.

Good luck and all the best !
