Did Homo sapiens evolve from erectus or heidelbergensis

Does recombination occur in prophase 1 and independant assortment in anaphase 2

Heidelbergensis (intermediate species between erectus and sapiens), but I don't think that this would be a VCAA question. They would probably give you a timeline graph/cladogram thing and ask you to interpret it.

Recombination occurs during prophase I.
Independent assortment occurs during metaphase I.

Have an affected mother with all affected sons.

Isn't that dominant though? Trying to wrap my mind around this...

Because the trait is X linked there only needs to be one copy of the allele, as males have the genotype XY. The allele could be for the recessive or dominant condition.

Can organelles be recycled?

Yeah, but mitochondria and the nucleus are broken down.

Yeah, the mother can be either affected or unaffected. So, both parents may be unaffected and give rise to affected sons, but the mother will be a carrier (which is represented by a dot)

I don't believe so. It would be hard to image that a macrophage engulfs fragments of a cell but does not digest certain organelles because other cells are in need of them.

EDIT: I researched it and it does seem like some organelles can be retained, except the nucleus and the mitochondria. How they are recycled is far beyond the scope of the course, though. I doubt that we will be asked about it.

It depends on the person really, personally i just go through notes the day before exams, maybe do some practice SA questions.

True. How are you guys planning to approach reading time. I'm torn between doing MC during reading time or analysing SA. Both have their benefits.

That is a really good question, i personally aim for going through SA questions and reading all the information in them, if there is a multiple choice question that i come upon during writing time that links to one of the SA questions, i can use the information in it to help me decide what the answer is.

Isn't there only 12?  :o

I like to spend most of my time reading through the SA, grasping what the questions are asking and determining which questions will take longer to answer. Then I look through the MC and remember the answers to some of the questions :)

Is the endosymbiotic theory still assessable? Only came across it once in an old VCAA exam.
