nervous about 3/4 methods

I go to a public school and over the past few years 2 girls out of the entire methods class (40 students) get 40s - this is quite a low number compared to other subjects and our teachers aren't incredible either. I am definitely one of the weakest ones and find maths very stressful (was planning to do further but due to timetabling I can't get into any classes other than methods).

I have never been good at maths and I mainly struggle with:
- working out what a question is asking in the extended response
- i have a very low confidence in maths so I get freaked out and this causes me to mental blank
- i don't pick up topics quickly so class pace is generally too fast anyways
- i have a weak foundation in maths which causes me much trouble in tests

1/2 methods was a nightmare but I can't get out of the subject so if anyone can offer tips to help make 2014 a calmer and a stronger year for me in maths that would be a great HELP! I have gotten a tutor but I want to know what else could help me throughout the course

I am not aiming to have a miracle in 3/4 methods but I would like a 30-32 comfortably. Around the low 30s would be great.

Thanks

Whhut i though Balwyn is like one of the top performing state schools (non selective) in the state?

School hasn't even started so there's definitely time improve :D
Don't stress. Methods takes practise. You need to be patient as amazing results don't magically appear the next day.
Math is a skill that needs to be exercised regularly. So don't do nothing one week and cram the next. You need to consistent with your study.
How to get better? Do questions. Expose yourself to different questions, and make sure you understand the theory and concepts behind it.
Do the questions in your textbook and don't beat yourself if you get it wrong or don't understand. Make an effort to understand questions you don't. You need to address your weaknesses head on. How to do this? Ask your teacher/ tutor or here on AN....

You say you are weak in your foundations... Take a look at 1/2 and you do some questions that you have trouble with. (DW about probability; 3/4 is totally different) Take a look at Linear, quadratic, cubic algebra and graphing. Might want to do some exercises to algebraic manipulation and expanding and factorising.

Take each day as it comes and work towards improvement, you if work diligently from early on you will put yourself in the best position come exam time.

Best of luck.

Yeah plenty of questions helps.

I'm beginning 1/2 this year and I thought that, with practice, the concepts can get much easier to comprehend and understand!
