Parents wont let me accept offer!

Hey guys,
Today i received a offer from Victoria university which was 2nd last on my preference list, I'm happy I got into university but not happy that its Vic Uni, not because of its reputation but because it would take me +2 hours to travel there.
And I feel that its not right for me & feel as though the course isn't going to be for me.

I know all have told me to accept your first offer no matter what, but unfortunately my parents are freaked out and won't let me go there and enrolment day is next week-friday and they said they would rather me take a gap year or do tafe than travel to vic uni. So now hope I receive another offer for Round 2.

I'm so confused, I'm scared if I don't get Round 2 offer.
Any Advice? What should I do?

Best thing to do now is accept. Try and explain to your parents that accepting the first round offer is the best course of action. If a better offer comes up in round two that you can just change your choice. You can also defer a year if you do want to take that gap year. In case you don't get another offer, if you work hard at uni and excel, you can always transfer to the uni of your first preference after the end of first year with all your credits intact.

Don't worry! You have lots of options and ultimately, this is your choice and future, not your parents.

Oh, and maybe there is a closer campus? Or what other uni's have you applied for? You can go for a negotiated offer.

If all else fails and you don't receive any further offers, just remember that you can transfer to another university at the end of 1st year (provided you attain a competitive average).

Just know you have options - it's not locked in for the full 3-4 years.

I suggest you explain to your parents there way the offers system works, that is, accepting the vic uni offer won't stop you from receiving second round offers etc.

Accepting the offer is a good idea in case you don't get any others-you can always pull out of a course before the uni's census date (usually a few weeks after the semester proper starts) which means you don't pay fees. Is moving to on campus accommodation an option for you if worst comes to worst?

Thanks everyone... My parents know about the offer system but to them its better that I take a gap year or go to tafe rather than travel there- they are worried about my safety of using public transport and wont let me travel- they are strict and yes If only i knew before I wouldn't have put it down but it was my 2nd last option so didn't think I would be offered a place there.

It can be hard to explain this sort of stuff to parents. The bottom line though is that there's nothing to lose by accepting, but you'd be taking a risk by not accepting.
