No one knows what happens there and what magical lottery determines what year your ID expires. I'm doing a single degree, which I should have finished by this year, yet it expires in 2015. Hmmmmm maybe it is magic, not gonna finish my degree this year, HOW DID THEY KNOW??!

AWKIES because your ID is scheduled to expire two years after you're scheduled to graduate :P

My level of keenness cannot be expressed in words, but only with large amounts of ridiculous arm-waving and screaming!

Am I allowed to do CHM1011 if I got above 37 in vce chem? It is legitimately impossible for me to fit in CHM1051 into my mix :/

Yep! CHM1011 and 1051 are almost the same, so there's no issue if you want to do 1011 instead :)

sweet! and also, is it an okay idea to attend 2 lecture parts (P1 and P2) from different streams? It seems really hard to coordinate all my subjects via MUTTS if I don't do this.

That should be alright, I did this for biology last year haha. Just make sure you're not doubling up on a lecture part!

CHM1051 will allow you to do CHM2990 (Second-year research unit) in the following year if you choose to
If you aren't further pursuing chemistry, or not majoring in it, then there's no problem

so if I go with the chm1011 -> chm1022 pathway for first year, I can only minor in chemistry?

Oh no, of course you can major in it!

What I'm saying is that the advanced chemistry unit allows you to take a second-year research unit. I'm assuming that if you are interested in further Chemistry, you will probably be interested in research

Aka, if you want to make Chemistry one of your majors, it will be a good idea to have a research unit under your belt, whether at second or third year, it doesn't matter. CHM1051 will allow you to do the second-year research unit (they're changing the pre-reqs for that unit to allow this)

However, you can still do the normal chem units, you can minor or major and you can, if interested, do a third-year research project

None of this research stuff will make sense to you so don't stress. Stick with that you're going for, it'll work out :)

Technically you're not meant to attend lectures you're not enrolled in for capacity reasons. The lecture theater can only safely (and i guess legally with OH&S ?) hold a certain number of people. In first year biology, we had one of the biggest theaters on campus but there were heaps of people sitting near doors, on steps, in the aisles because people who weren't assigned to the better spot showed up to it. Lecture attendance usually dramatically drops off about half way through semester though.

Can confirm this happened to me in my first chemistry lecture of one of the semesters. If it appears that there is absolutely no way to seat everyone in a lecture theatre, then it becomes an OH&S issue, so the lecturer may advise you to attend another stream (or if he/she is very kind, they'll contact another lecturer and hold the exact same lecture at a different place). That being said, cross-streaming of lectures is very common at uni, and it's not really a big issue. As slothpomba mentions, typically lecture attendance decreases as the semester goes on. So if you're patient enough, you should be able to attend lectures from different streams as time goes on! (just take some care - if a lecture is likely to be full, it's probably a sign of courtesy to let those who originally enrolled in that stream to attend it.)
