I just finished tsfx chemistry summer school and got told about masterclass. I found the summer school to have good teachers and notes but has anyone been to their masterclasses and if so was it worth it? Did your scores improve and/or did you feel that you wouldn't have gotten the SS you got without them? I'm stuck between tsfx classes, regular tutoring or none. In year 11 chem I wasn't doing too bad (around 75-80% in sacs) but i want to get a high study score and not sure if i can do it on my own. The normal teacher is not always available/has a lot of other students to teach
so far what I have heard:
pros
- LOTS of detailed notes and practice exams (I received 2 thick booklets just from summer school)
- teachers there are also assessors which leads to better exam tips/advice
- extra classes and extension programs included
- works out to be around $30-35/hour with summer school discount
- more than 1 teacher per group
Cons
- travel time to the city (around 45 minutes there and back for me)
- not private/one on one tutoring - classes are around 20 students
- classes might not align with school sacs so you may only learn a concept from them after a sac
- teacher may go through content too fast (however there is an option to switch times/teachers whenever)
Can anyone who did tsfx confirm if these things are true or not?
I personally think they are definitely worth it especially if you go to an underrepresented school. Some of the students from my school really done well and even they admit that they wouldn't have been able to do it without TSFX.
If you think about, it's also good value for money considering that you'll be permitted to go extra classes free of charge
The only problem is transport. Takes me 2.5 hours to get their and back so a total of 5 hours. But if you feel that you are an independent learner and have good teachers who are willing to help you and give you lots of exam papers, then there really isn't any need to.
Good Luck
