How much have you done ?

Hello everyone :)

School is closely approaching us and I can't WAIT to start Health. Knowing how eager everyone is for health, how did health treat you during the break? Did you only complete the minimum work set by your teacher or did you go ahead and finish AOS1 ? Or maybe completed unit 3, written up your own set of notes and now starting practice questions.

Good Luck guys :)

I have the same teacher for HHD this year as I did for 3/4 Food Tech last year. Because I did the set work and only the set work over the break for Food Tech last year, I am just doing the set work for HHD and writing my notes for what we have done so far. I might maybe a read a little ahead in the textbook so I'm aware of what's coming up. I figure I probably don't really need to go too far into the course because I know I can do very well having the teacher I've got and with my attitude to the subject because I love HHD so I'm not too concerned about not working really far ahead.

All I did was complete the booklet we we given for homework. It's given me a good overview of the first couple of chapters. I don't really see any benefit in going ahead in health, since the topics don't take much time to get around. I find it more beneficial to go over topics from harder subjects such as chemistry, physics and english.

Are you doing health as a year 11?

Hi Anchy,

I was in a similar position to you! I went overseas between Year 11 and Year 12, and actually did very little work in that period. I didn't do Health 1/2, either, so I wasn't entirely sure what I should have been doing. My advice is to not worry too much at this stage; as has been mentioned, the topics in health aren't particularly difficult to get your head around, and I'm sure you will be fine!  :)

I think going overseas is the best possible preparation for Health (and for any subject!). Well, it was for me, at least!

All the best.  :)

I've read chapter one of the Key concepts textbook...
Began writing notes for the chapter..
I feel so behind...
I should really begin to memorise definitions...

I completed Health in 2012, and the most crucial thing I believe was setting up a Glossary of Terms. It's crucial you know all the key definitions because it's very easy to get mixed up (there are a lot!).

Even just firstly writing them straight from the textbook (they usually have a list of definitions on the side of the pages) to get an idea.

I'd do that at the minimum + perhaps the first chapter or two to maintain ahead of schedule!

Good luck with HHD :D

Can I ask whether doing Chapter 1 is going ahead?
Like, we covered most (3/4) of chapter 1 during transition week...so technically i'm going a very little bit ahead..

I was wondering what other schools set for holiday work...Did you pass Chapter 1?

Chapter 1 is basically the year 11 course work in my opinion, so it should be just revision. We got a booklet that gave us a good outlook on the first area of study.

We did the first 2 dot points during our orientation program and we got a booklet with revision activities for those dot points and questions to do as an overview for the next couple of dot points.

Oh that's awkward...
Now I feel more behind... hahahha

With health this year, i'll probably go with the pace of the class...

What do you mean dot points? Were the 2 dot points of chapter 1?

Not really! If your school goes over chapter 1 then you are technically ahead. But after skimming through the chapter, everything in there is material that we learnt in year 11, so I'm just assuming that it is just revision.

Even if it is, once again you are still ahead because your teacher might go over it. Plus this allows you to start chapter 2 straight away, while others like me will be doing chapter 1.
