desperate for help with courses

hello im a year 12 student now and i still havent decided on what course i want
last year i completed year 12 turkish and psych (SS of 40, 35 relatively) and this year my subjects are chem, specialist maths, english and methods
i was once thinking of doing melbourne uni science but to be honest i dont think i can achieve a high atar of at least 92 (clearly in rank)
and also bachelor of commerce 95 clearly in rank
i am prepared towork as hard as i can but i still feel i wont be able to achieve as high as i want
i was also thinking about teaching but im curious is there a big difference between completing bachelor of education at melbourne uni and say vic uni which requires a substantially lower atar
helpp
i would appreciate it if anyone gave ideas about courses and  career options related to them
btwi believe my strength is maths
thanks

Melbourne doesn't have a Bachelor of Education, only a Master of Teaching in the three streams (Early Childhood, Primary and Secondary).

My personal recommendation would be (if you are interested in a teaching career) to do a Bachelor of Commerce, Science (or whatever bachelor) then complete the Masters - or do a double degree.

Do you qualify for Access Melbourne? Some more info can be found here:
http://futurestudents.unimelb.edu.au/admissions/access_melbourne_and_equity_programs/access-melbourne

If you do, you could therefore have a lower required ATAR for entry into that course provided you meet the requirement.

If your 'strength' is Maths and you want to pursue something related in this field. I would definitely recommend a Science or Commerce degree, indeed.

Don't give up hope because you think you can't get in. There are always other ways, and with those current scores so far, I think you will do fine :)

Good luck with your studies.

The main thing is not to doubt yourself. You've already achieved very respectable scores this year, and that's the first step to getting to your preferred course. If you want to get into UoM Science, then set yourself that goal and given that you work towards it (and you've said that you're willing to put in the requisite effort) you'll achieve said goal.

Marks-wise, let's put your situation into perspective. You've already scored a 40 and 35 raw, while scale respectively (approximately) to 39 and 33. In 2012, if you were to have these scores and get a 35 in all your remaining subjects, then you'd have netted yourself an ATAR of around 93.85! Even if I adjust these scores for supposed difficulty, the ATAR doesn't drop below 92, so I'd say you've got a fairly good shot if you work hard. (NOTE that this data is just based on 2012 scaling data. Methods scaled massively last year, so that works in your favour too :) )

2013-2016
Majoring in Genetics and Developmental Biology

2012 ATAR: 96.55
English [48] Biology [40]

you can definitely get into melbourne science if you work hard or consistently. all of your subjects next year scale well, and you say your strength is maths, lets be very conservative for arguments sake - if you get 38s in methods and specialist and 30 for chem and english you'll get around a 93 atar !! and if you have other things to boost your chances of entry such as access melbourne or other disadvantages you could even get into commerce with that ! if you like science/math/chemistry/psych, you should definitely study hard next year so you can do melbourne science. Melbourne doesnt have a bachelor of education, just a masters in teaching, therefor, you could do the 3 year bachelors of science, and if you realise you dont want to do anything sciencey/want to be a teacher, you can do the 2 year masters course then you are qualified to teach !!
dont stress my friend, just work hard and try your best and everything will fall into place, and if not you can come back here and ask us for some help when the time comes :D

best of luck !!!

Honestly I'm hoping for 38 for methods but about 30 for spesh from what I figured from unit 1/2 methods and general spesh
Pretty confident with methods achieving mostly in the 90s and sometimes 80s

There are plenty of ways to get into the course you want. If you don't make it, you can always go to another university, get high uni marks and transfer over.

As for the science degree, its pretty much the same no matter what uni you go to. All your lecturers will be PhD qualified, its not like they don't know what they're talking about. It's also not like the physics students at UoM learn about quantum physics and the ones at La Trobe don't, there is no hidden knowledge or anything. You'll learn roughly the same stuff wherever you go. So, i wouldn't worry about the individual university too much except for factors like location, sports clubs, etc.

The difference between VU and UoM i guess is (a) prestiege and (b) VU has a bachelors, UoM only has a masters of education, which again is looked upon as more prestigious regardless where its from i guess. If it is accredited by whoever accredits teacher training courses, it doesn't really matter because it needs to meet those standards. Prestiege may help with employment and you may get access to more recognised and published academics at a more prestigious university though.

I got even a lower score than yours in Turkish and also I got even the worse one in IT. I dont understand why you're worried too much. You can easily get 90+ with the scores you mentioned. Once you get your desired score, there will be plenty of options you can choose from.
