There are plenty of ways to get into the course you want. If you don't make it, you can always go to another university, get high uni marks and transfer over.
As for the science degree, its pretty much the same no matter what uni you go to. All your lecturers will be PhD qualified, its not like they don't know what they're talking about. It's also not like the physics students at UoM learn about quantum physics and the ones at La Trobe don't, there is no hidden knowledge or anything. You'll learn roughly the same stuff wherever you go. So, i wouldn't worry about the individual university too much except for factors like location, sports clubs, etc.
The difference between VU and UoM i guess is (a) prestiege and (b) VU has a bachelors, UoM only has a masters of education, which again is looked upon as more prestigious regardless where its from i guess. If it is accredited by whoever accredits teacher training courses, it doesn't really matter because it needs to meet those standards. Prestiege may help with employment and you may get access to more recognised and published academics at a more prestigious university though.
