Regular grant applications open at the end of this month (thanks extremely attractive guy at the desk at uni for telling me that, scribble and Ballerina can confirm he was extremely good-looking) and you use a single application form to apply for ALL of them! Scholarships are rarer and harder to get, and the majority are for honours or postgraduate students. Grant link: http://services.unimelb.edu.au/finaid/loans/grants/general

very helpful, danke  :)

If less individuals know about the coveted grants, we have an improved chance of receiving one  :-X Everyone, keep it on the down low.

Mmmmm God, cut me a slice of that pie.

He consisted of chiseled features + light blue button down shirt.

DON'T LISTEN TO THEM NINA, YOUR SITE HAS FLOURISHED AND YOU RECEIVE INFINITY HITS.

Can you ask the lecturers questions after the lecture? Like, physically go down to them to ask them stuff? Or are they always in a hurry to rush off?

Also, is it the lecturers who set the assignments and tests?

Are you allowed to email your lecturers to ask them questions, or can you only email the people who take your tutes?

There are usually a few people who crowd around the lecturer after the lecture (quantum mechanics lols). Many seem to prefer email, so I email unless there are no students asking questions (protists) or the lecturer has a 30 minute break between his lecturers and can't be bothered returning to his office, so he plays Muse at full volume during intermission (Schiesser).

Yes. Or coordinators.

Email seems to be the preferred communication unless otherwise specified. Lecturers will specify whether you should direct questions to tutors/forums (Mind, Brain and Behaviour, Critical Thinking With Data) and if they don't (Chemistry 1), emails are generally reciprocated by the lecturer within a couple of days.

you apply online.
it doesn't matter if you dont move in until o week, as long as you know the pricing etc. the form involves you filling in a budget kind of thing where you list all of your expected expenses.
i dont remember how long you have to get applications in, but last year if was a bit dodgy cause they released the application suuuuuuper late.

Ah k, well hopefully they release the applications before I forget about it. I'll be living on 2 minute noodles for the next 3 years if I don't get this grant  :P
One of my best friends who lives in Queensland considered moving to UoM to do Science but decided against it because of the money haha. Good luck! Speak to a student advisor at the uni when you can, they're very good at coming up with individual financial management plans for students living away from home on a budget.

Just means 2 hours of travelling a day
If it makes you feel any better (it shouldn't) a friend of mine travels in three hours each way a day. Three hours! I just couldn't imagine. I admire you people.

don't put lectures and classes back to back because you'll find that the buildings are usually very far from each other especially when you're in the first couple of weeks of first year. Stresssing out about whether you'll make it in time will just ruin your mojo!
