For anyone that's interested: http://www.sciencevictoria.com.au/sts/index.html
You could start on the project after the test, and could use it to reinforce your passion for science in the interview. I've done it the last few years and it's not too difficult to win an award of some sort :P.

Hey guys! ;D I'm in year 9 and I am going to try out for JMSS too.......a little nervous though, haha! :P
I haven't done much studying so far......I know, I should really start studying, but do you think I will have enough time to prepare for the exam???   :o
It really would be amazing to be a John Monash student! I really enjoy science and right now I'm participating in this competition called "Science Talent Search", I am thinking of making a working model or an invention.
I am trying hard in science and maths this year but I really need help on what to study for the JMSS exam :o
Is the maths really hard? and for the numerical reasoning, does it involve lots of number patterns and logic questions?
Also for the science part, are the questions mostly basic stuff and general knowledge or is it complicated and hard?
Any help will be very much appreciated!! ;D

Just do your year level Science and Maths and you'll be fine. Also ask Hannibal for some advise, he sounds like a smart guy :D

Hey Fizzy!
It's perfectly fine to feel nervous, I'm pretty sure everyone that's keen on a spot is feeling the same thing. It's great how you are doing the STS, will boost your chances of having a successful interview :). As for the maths and science components of the test, anecdotes from others who have sat the test previously is all we know atm haha. There's a guide here that makes things somewhat clear: A guide on how to  to study for the John Monash Science School exam . But according to some people who have sat the test, the science questions are a lot like in ICAS, more comprehension-based than anything. Because of this, most of the science work we are doing is going towards the Science Interest/Communication essays, so pray for a topic you have covered extensively :P. The maths is supposed to be Year 9 level, but I'm covering early Year 10 topics just to be safe ;). Coming on a tour btw?

Best of luck haha, and if you want to help each other out some more I'm available via PM.

No way, in my dreams maybe :P

Hey Hannibal! thnx so much for the info  ;D I really want to go on a tour, I'm pretty sure there is one next Tuesday and Thursday, are you coming?
Oh and yes, I'll try to read ahead in my science textbook and hopefully be prepared for the exam...
by the way, today is the 21st, so we have exactly 1 MONTH left!!!  :o better start studying hard!
My friend goes to Hendersons and she says it's really good and that they give you actual practise tests, she told me that we might have to know about evolution and types of energy. I'm going to study them, just to be on the safe side :)
:D

Yep, I'm coming on the Tuesday one :). For Science I recommend writing three documents for Chemistry, Biology and Physics, and splinting those documents into different areas. This way, whichever topic comes up on the exam, you will be somewhat prepared for it :P. I go to the JAC preparation course and it's rubbish, save your money if you are thinking about going haha :P. For the Science comprehension they use articles from Wikipedia as text, and its insanely difficult (Getting 30% in Maths is a High Average). Apparently Hendersons is decent though so give it a go ;).

And yup - one month to go, lets do this :D.

Hey guys,
1 more month till the JMSS exam  :o
I am really nervous right now and am not sure whether I am ready or not haha! I have studied the whole year 9 textbook and going through year 8. I went through a bit of year 10 too. For maths, I have covered year 9 curriculum (well) and year 10 curriculum (roughly).
For Numerical Reasoning, I like patterns and sequences and stuff (haha)! I am just worried about timing. I asked a few mates who attend JMSS that I met on AN about the timing, and apparently it is easily "do able" in 30 seconds. Haha, so hopefully we find it that way too!
I attend JAC (really hard, only getting 30%-50% every test, which is still high compared to others :o) and Hendersons (great!!!)
Just in case I get an interview: I joined the SRC, Green Team, Library Monitor and Home Group Captain for some bragging material! haha! Also, I am doing my best in Maths and Science and so far my average is over 90% for both subjects!
How is everyone else feeling about this exam? Anyone got any tips and techniques to use for the exam or on the day? Or to study!?
I know I gotta stay calm and breathe and stuff like that but any others? Hahaha  ;D
I might be coming for a JMSS school tour on Tuesday or Thursday if there are spots open!
Please PM for anything really!! Or comment!  ;D ;D

I'm strangely excited but nervous as fk!  :'(
I really wanna get in haha! Anyone else feeling like this?
:D

Haha I'm panicking about the interview as well. Joining all sorts of random competitions and activities so I can put it on my portfolio and brag about it :D. Come to the Tuesday tour if you can ;). And I agree with you on JAC, the maths component is literally mental torture for me :(. Last time I scored 17%, and you could score higher by picking C for every question  ???.

I know how it feels, but I'm sure we'll all make it! Just a few more weeks to go so we have to give it everything we have and not have any regrets :).

Am I the only person not attending JAC or Hendersons? I understand how useful they can be, but the price is too much for my family. Is it really worth doing if I want to get into jmss?
