If any of you guys learn well visually or audibly and want to learn science topics I would suggest this guy:
https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCEik-U3T6u6JA0XiHLbNbOw
This guy does in-depth videos on all sorts of science and has really helped me learn a bit about topics I haven't looked at too much in the textbook. Taking notes also helps with the videos :D
HAHHA man thanks :)), except the stuff he talks about seem to be very advance..

Hi,
I'm doing the JMSS exam this year and it's only a week away :-\
I'm just wondering how many questions and how much time we have for each test?
Please reply asap :D
I haven't really done so much practice. Just some Icas papers, some other practice papers, and watched some documentaries......
Thanks

Welcome! :)
I think it's something like this, although there's no way of knowing for sure:
There are 40 questions for Science Reasoning in 30 mins??
Numerical 50 questions in 30 mins?
Maths 60 questions in 30 mins?
And the two essays 25 mins each??- But one of them has 5 mins planning time??

VERY GOOD GUIDE HANNIBAL!!

LOL let's continue with the science triva??

#1 name 3 use of a multimeter.
#2 What is the formula for resistance?
#3 Give 2 examples on how we can increase the voltage within an electric circuit.
#4 What is the difference between tension and compression forces?

HAHA mainly physics stuff that I revised today :)

Thats a good idea!  :)
How does the energy from the sun end up in a football player's body and energy?

Ooh ooh ohh. I'm gonna write like 1-2 essays a night. :)

How about:
Describe the process of photosynthesis to a 4th grader

Wow thanks! There's 72 videos in Chemistry alone... :P
72? I didn't realise there were that many. I think he has a smaller playlist with more basic chemistry videos. You could probably look at those instead.

(it would take like the rest of the week to watch all of those videos... :P)

Trust me on this,  but I think everyone in this conversation (especially hannibal) except me will get into JMSS. You guys seem to be working so hard for JMSS. Anyone know how to prevent procrastination?
 :) :) :) :) ;) ;) ;D

Well, it's hard to explain how to prevent procrastination. There are plenty of different methods on the internet (just don't find yourself procrastinating and wasting time looking for ways to stop procrastination :P).

I had quite a bit of trouble and only really started studying like 2 weeks ago (I knew about all of this in march to give you an idea of this). What I basically did was try to go cold turkey on everything that was distracting me. Kind of like a smoker would just stop having cigarettes altogether, I uninstalled all my games, deactivated my facebook and twitter account, blocked facebook, twitter, youtube, reddit, etc. and kind of just pushed everything else out of the back of my mind.  ;)

Trust me, it wasn't easy to do this (I felt really bad immediately after and tried to undo all of my actions), but you just need to keep saying no to the distractions and push them away. Or if it's because you're lazy and can't be bothered walking to the other side of your bedroom to get your books out or something, then you should get somebody else (like a parent) to monitor your procrastination and laziness and make sure they like check on you every now and then and make sure you're working and getting your books out and stuff.

This doesn't work for everybody, but those two methods are pretty much the two methods I used to start studying. Sure, I still get distracted now sometimes (I literally just wasted the last 2 hours reading forums on AN), but it has helped me stay focused and learn. :)

EDIT: Try not to doubt yourself, it's only going to make you more nervous and stressed over the exams and could result in lower marks. You can do it! :D :D :D

Thanks for the tips, I'm going to try and block some of the sites I go on. The thing is that I don't play computer games, just PS3. I played today and I feel bad doing that before the exam. The thing is that last year I tried so hard to get into Mhs, I stopped playing PS3 and watching alot of tv. Most of my day was studying..........Then this year my brother tried for a year 7 entry and he doesn't even study alot. Most of the time hes on youtube or playing fifa 13 on the ps3. I felt happy and sad at the same time when they sent an email telling him he got an interview. It's just unfair how I spent more than half a year studying last year and I don't even get a pd and he doesn't do anything and he get an interview.......
Mhs has hit me hard, and thats one of the reason why I don't feel like studying :( I just feel so useless and this makes me think that I have no chance.
Getting into JMSS would be a great thing, but if I'm going to be like this I just wont be able to :(

Everyone procrastinates, but we all have our moments of study euphoria as well :P. There's no easy way to prevent it, you just have to work around it I suppose ;). For me, knowing that there is only six days left makes me work harder, knowing that I'll never get an opportunity to study for this again. Besides, afterwords I have a week long camp, followed by two weeks of holidays :D.

Personally, I work so much more effectively in the library, and can often stay there for long periods of time. So far in JMSS preperation the maximum I've been able to study at home is 2-3 hours, compared to the library where I can literally stay at for the majority of my awake day. Definitely try it out! :)

OH MAN, like honestly everyday, at least i procrastinate 2 hrs and maybe even 3 from youtube and social media!!!
Well i suppose not really, because I use it as an award, such as finishing my essay or corrected my past test paper. :DD

P.S I'm sure most of us on this forum page have tried out selective school and wasn't successful... Hahaha always remember: 'Forget the past and prepare for the future' :)

haha wow thanks but seriously i am certain that you will do fine. Do not let that distract you, you do have the potential to get accepted. Its really this week and last week that I have procrastinated heaps. Like going to have dinner, then say "half an hour more" and watch the big bang theory. Then I will go on AN and read forums. I guess, haha AN has been what I have procrastinated on a lot!
When ever I find myself procrastinating, I remember Bullet's quote, ("procrastination is opportunity's assassin"). Then also, I look at the prospectus for 2014 jmss info night booklet and remember how amazing it is to get in! Hahaha! Good Luck man, 6 days to go, be relaxed and pumped!  :D

I know how you feel. I tried for nossal high school and did vigorous studying last year and didnt get accepted. That also hit me hard. However I did know what I did wrong. Firstly, I started studying with like 1 and half months till the exam and I studied the wrong things. The tuition I went to did not teach the right stuff and I thought it was good. This year, I began study in January, did hard studying the last 2-3 months and last week and this week, doing practise essays/papers and kinda chillin. Haha, I also did the nossal high year 10 paper, and the maths/numerical reasoning were not too bad, so that boosted my confidence. Now, working hard on my science.
For maths, I know year 9 and basic year 10.
For science, studied year 7, 8 and 9 textbook and have a decent knowledge of it. I know a bit about year 10 (chemistry), but nowhere as near as what hannibal did! Just dedicate 3-4  hours of jmss study this week, EXCEPT FRIDAY, DO NOTHING FRIDAY (as I have been advised).
:D
