How important is year 11 English, like seriously?

I've been focusing way too much on my year 12 subjects and I noticed i'm beginning to neglect my 1&2 subjects especially English.
I write essays and read articles and books but it sometimes is hard catching up with the class.
Say I don't perform as well as I want to this year in English, will I still have time to improve next year?
I know that this year is a good time to actually familiarise myself with the expectations and all but how do I do it without missing out on anything?

The following is what I'm planning to do this year - is it sufficient to do well in year 12?
-read articles and summarise it
-read lots of books
-make notes on the set texts
-do a practise essay once a week/fortnight
-learn atleast 2 new words every week
-get a tutor since my eng teach is HORRIBLE

Thanks and is there anything you did that helped you in year 12?
:)

If you're already doing that, you'll be fine to 'catch up' whatever you feel you need to in Year 12.
✌️just do what makes you happy ✌️

haha i agree, thats what you call "keeping up to with the class", thats my max haha id never think of doing that much. Learning 2 words a week is too much, don't want to proliferate (a word i learnt last week haha) with other stuff

hmm I just brainstormed something, what do you guys think of sharing words that we learn each week- I guess that'll allow us to increase our vocab more rapidly :)
I just like to add that my vocab is really limited!

shit that's more than what I did in year 12.
haha yeah that's what my aims are at the beginning of the year. by the time term 1 ends, I get a burnout and end up not doing anything I had planned :)

I was getting 14/20 for some of my english work, and I used to pride myself on never slipping below a 19. I know others who were barely passing, and ended up with high 30s/ low 40s. It's always possible to pull yourself back up from a bad year/class/teacher etc. in yr 11, but if you commit, it can be an excellent foundation for year 12. If you can grasp the basics of essay formats and structures now, year 12 will be a walk in the park.
You plan sounds more than sufficient.
My only other recommendation is to work out what your strengths/weaknesses are; from the big things like writing Language Analyses to the little things like trying to conclude an intro, or integrating quotes in Text Response essays. In my experience the best way to study or even approach exams is to know what you're good at and what you struggle with. Most people chose the order they write their three essays at the end of the year based on what they know they can do well.

And yes x1000 to vocab club  ;D Is this limited to words we'd use in essays cause I have a head full of esoteric ones. Eigengrau is the coour seen by the eye in natural darkness. The more you know.

Thank-you Lauren!!
I'll definitely start putting that into perspective :) haha I agree, there would be no point writing without knowing where you stand :P

Yay!! I started a thread 'new words - feel free to add'
no no not at all -- feel free to add all kinds of words :) It'd be especially great to hear from such a high achiever!
