Is it necessary to make notes for English in year 11?

I feel realllly guilty because I had promised myself to read my texts and make notes on them which I haven't but I've only read.

Is it too late to do so now? I'm just flooded with so much with my other subjects. How can I manage and keep up with English?

Thanks!

dw about it, trust me. I haven't made notes for 1/2 and i don't intend to. Maybe on the texts you read, you might want to make short 3-4 line summaries but usually sparks notes has that. Focus on your 3/4s, same as I'm doing.

That's actually what I was also planning to do- although I was just a bit worried though since I'm usually told that it's good practice for year 12..

I'd say start working on LA and start reading the newspaper
perhaps write notes on characters and themes for just your text response texts and disregard your context for now if you're busy.
I focused more on bio and if I could go back that's what i'd do!
2013: Biology [47]

2014 AIMS: English (37)    Methods (37)    Business Management (30)    Chemistry (40)

2015 AIMS:
Applied Science/Physiotherapy Practice at La Trobe

Feel free to PM me about Bio or anything :)

Haha well I'm in the same boat as you where I've only read my book though I've 'sort of' made notes/annotations here and there for my texts and just jotting down notes for classes.

If you take the bus to school then maybe you could use that time to write some annotations here and there though or maybe actually dedicate some time for it (rather than push it to the side [normally works for me when it becomes a priority :P).

For me though it's more about fine-tuning my ability to draw more ideas from my texts rather than using SparkNotes as a guide (I think it's a good time to put in the required effort even if it means nothing until next year :P) but remember to balance it all out (which is the tough bit LOL).

SO true!
Luckily I do catch the bus so maybe I should start doing that!
Managing my time and trying hard not to procrastinate is what keeps me back though; I guess that's what year 11's for - experimenting and consolidating what we already know:P
But  I'll try doing that! Thanks IndefatigableLover!

Making your own notes goes a LONG way. Teachers look for uniqueness in your ideas and even in how you express yourself in writing. Using others' notes, or not making your own notes at all, is going to make your writing seem dull - just like the pile of papers English teachers have to plough through. It's never too late to start making notes (don't expect it to be a last minute miracle though), as VCE English is all about making your writing stand out from the crowd (in a good way) ;)

Learning LA inside and out should be your priority, since that will give you a direct advantage in year 12. Your texts/contexts will change however, and while the annotation process is similar, you shouldn't be stressing over your year 11 books. Get a general feel for how the three essay types work and what is required of them, and consider year 11 english a practice run. It'd be great if you did get in the habit of making time for english, since it's one of those subjects you can just pick up and run with, unlike Bio or Maths. Buses worked for me too till I developed car sickness from reading too much :P
Also, it sounds silly, but sometimes thinking about your texts is enough. In Year 12 you should be writing it all down, but for now just thinking about the different themes and characters will help you get in the mindset needed for next year.
Where was I... oh yeah Language Analysis. Learn it now, and you'll be surprised how much time you save when all of your classmates are complaining 'I don't know how to do LA' and your teacher has to go over it from scratch. By the end of this year you should be able to look over the VCAA Past Exams and be fairly comfortable with the LA component, maybe even write some practice essays on the early ones. Then next year you can properly focus on, as one teacher at my school called it "getting intimate" with your texts.  ;)

I also think I have car sickness but for me doing the opposite of looking out the window seems to help, for some reason...
When I try to read in the car, I always just look at the book and nowhere else.

Maybe it's to do with where you're looking? I don't get car sickness when I'm reading a book on the bus (because I place the book on the headrest of the seat in front of me) but I've noticed when I'm on my laptop then I may start developing car sickness because it's on my lap and I have to look down to do my work... (just my 2c LOL)

Ahh, I see. I should try placing the book on the headrest next time and see how it goes.
