Monash On Campus Accommodation

Considering living on campus at monash (halls, not looking at mannix) - I applied pretty late so probably for next semester or something. I live in victoria so can get there by public transport which takes about 1 hour 15 mins or so. I know that sort of travel is pretty common, but thought that living on campus would save a lot of time and might be good for other reasons, like participation in club activities and sports and a good social life, easier to make friends  ;) . Also easy access to library resources.

What have been people's experiences of on campus living? I don't really mind poor/ordinary accommodation, more interest in getting involved in things. Is social life good there or do most people just stick to their rooms? Or is the other way round where study might be difficult? Overall do you think it is worth it? What did you get out of living on campus that you wouldn't have otherwise?

Thanks !!

Also what are each of the halls like? Which ones are more party-driven or quieter?

Pretty sure the halls are year-long leases, so unless you get lucky and someone wants to break their lease, you probably won't get it this year.

That said, I'm living in Jackomos Hall, was just built a couple years ago, and every room is fully self-sustained (in room kitchen/bathroom), in addition to public kitchens, a large common room, and a decent games room with a Pool Table, Table Tennis, and a PS3/Xbox 360/Nintendo Wii (They're buying us a PS4 soon!)

I've heard from people in Briggs hall (the other studio apartment hall right across from Jackomos) that the social life is almost dead there, but speaking personally, Jackomos has been pretty lively lately, having a month-long orientation calendar with a bunch of activities to do like bowling/laser tag/cinemas (most of them free)

I can't really speak to what I've gotten out of it since I'm a jaffy, but I will say I am liking it a lot.

Just with an alternative option, if you're going purely for value for money/time not wasted, i'd say get a share house. You get a (larger probably) room in addition to having an entire house to yourself between 2-4 people. You seem pretty adamant about the halls (and fair enough), so, i'll let others jump in with more.

Briggs/Jackomos have a good social life if you're a med student, lots of them stay there. Can't speak for other degrees but being a med student there is a good thing.

I've only met maybe 5 med students, but easily 100+ commerce students here
