Owners of charities?

I had a stupid q on my sac… Regarding who the ownership of charity is, there really isn't a definite answer is there?  I wrote shareholders (volunteers and membership subscriptions) Shareholder as not a charity to exist they would need investment from people thus membership subscription etc.  I mean this question bugged me, anyone have an answer?  I know shareholders aim to make a profit, but there also investors so in the context of a charity, investors may be light hearted and want their money to go to the organisation to save lives.

Thanks.

No one actually "owns" a charity in the way that a business can be owed. But the official board of trustees (i'm not sure if it's trustees) are responsible for the charity's operations.

The board of directors don't "own" the charity. They are only responsible for its operations.
I'm don't think a charity can be owned by private individuals or organisations, but they could be a subsidiary (not sure if it's the right term to use here).
For example, Ronald McDonald house is a charity that is under McDonalds.

Yeah, thats what i was meaning. Theoretically, a Charity is not owned per se, but it is controlled and operated by a Board of Directors.
