Anyone who has done 1/2 last year and is now doing 3/4?

I'm thinking of doing psych 3/4 next year, but I'm afraid that I won't do well  if I don't have any 1/2 knowledge. Should I pick up unit 2 so I have some idea of the subject or just do 3/4 next year?

don't worry, units 1/2 are almost completely irrelevant to 3/4. you can skip them without having any real difficulties next year. just make sure you get a really good grasp on research methods over the summer holidays, cos that's pretty much the only thing that carries over. plus it'll be part of pretty much every sac you do and will make up a large portion of the exam, so it's good to master early anyway

Not much continuity between 1&2 and 3&4 (most people enjoy 3&4 heaps more than 1&2). I didn't do 3&4. The only thing you'll need to catch up on is research methods, but even that's usually taught from scratch in 3&4 :)

As Paulrus and Scooby stated, research methods is the only topic that's relevant to 3&4 from 1&2.

You don't have to do 1&2 to be able to do well in 3&4. Your teacher should teach research methods again and it would be beneficial for you to read into research methods yourself before you start 3&4.

I didn't do Units 1 & 2 so it is definitely not a requirement. The potential benefits could be grasping an understanding of research methods and perhaps learning which method suits you the best (notes, audio etc) but this can also be developed through your other subjects!
Good luck :)

For pretty much every 3/4 textbook, research methods will be the first chapter.

Basically it covers how psychology is approached as a science, how studies are conducted, etc.
It's all the different ways you can do research, the procedure, the weaknesses you gotta overcome (and how).

So yeah, over the holidays, just go through the research methods section of your 3/4 book and do questions to consolidate it. Maybe even look at VCAA exams just to see HOW research methods comes up all the time :)

Guys I only doubled with Arts because I couldn't let go of Psych and wanted to keep doing it as a major at least, but I took International Studies on a whim after the info session just because I needed a minor, and I love it so much! It's 3:29am and I had to share this, I think I'm majoring in it bye.
