Have consecutive study periods for the same subject or spread them out?

Hey guys, just wondering what your opinion is on this:

Do you have consecutive study periods for the same subject (i.e studying 3 hours consecutively of Physics then switching on to 3 hours of Bio) or spread them out (1 hour of physics, then 1 hour of bio, etc)

I find I need to break up my study with different subjects otherwise I get bored. Usually I work on one subject anywhere from 30-60 minutes and then swap to something else.

I personally bulk study one subject at a time, around 2-4hrs depending on how long it takes to finish what I've planned to do. Mostly just so I don't lose my train of thought or mindset for that subject so  I don't have to constantly change from maths brain to science brain to English brain etc.

I do this too. Generally I select 1 or 2 subjects each day to work on during my study times and I focus solely on those subjects.

Also sometimes I decide to spend all my frees at school doing one subject, and all my study time at home doing another.

If I'm at school and have frees (one free is 75 minutes) then I just do work that I can get completed in that time for one subject rather than switching from subject to subject. So things like working through Methods exercises or Chemistry Homework for that whole time because it takes time to get settled into the mood and when you're changing subjects it can put you off I guess...

But if I'm at home then I basically do what walkec does and work on a lot of different subjects in shorter periods of time (unless I'm in the mood or need to get work done before a deadline). At home I don't have any time restrictions so I can work on things for as long as I want but generally I like to switch things around to get a balance of everything whilst keeping my 3&4 as a priority

Either way I think if you're looking at a full day then you should try and study a few subjects rather than focussing on one or two because it can dig your head in and yeah... boredom can set in too LOL

I'm the same. I usually end up spending the entire day focusing on one subject, sometimes two.

Haha this was me during Year 10 days but I ended up doing poorly in some of my assignments as a result and really well in others so I decided to change my study habits into working on different subjects a day I guess (and it's working but it was a pain to change)

I'm exactly the same, i try and spend as much time as possible on one subject do as much work as possible, works best for me i guess.
I find when you switch consistently between different subjects you lose your train of thoughts and motivation.

But just as a tip, try to utilize these school holidays effectively. Catch up with overdue work, get your head around topics you are having troubles with - but don't over do it... There's a reason why they are called school HOLIDAYS

I'd like to think so, but I've found that it doesn't help much unless you're constantly revising and consolidating learnt material. In the end, that's all it is.

Yeah, that's what I thought. And I feel that if you spend that time consolidating already-learned material then you'll be more prepared to spend a good amount of time on everything else anyway. Thanks

I don't actually think working ahead is a good idea from my personal experience.

Back when i was a hard-working, keen year 8 student, i finished the entire year 8 curriculum in the summer holidays.

Think I focused too much on it, started working on year 9 stuff in term 4, screws up exam because i forgot like half the stuff learned earlier in the year and got a B+, despite A+ for every assessment prior.
