Some tips for excelling in expository pieces?

How would I draw from my set texts in expository pieces? I don't want to just use ideas and situations, but I'm not entirely sure how I could incorporate language features into an expository essay!

Any advice? Thanks  :)

Hey, what exactly do you mean - as in what examples you should use to support your contention in an expository essay? Not sure what you mean by incorporating language features either, if you're a little more specific, hopefully I can offer some advice

For example, I'm currently studying 'The Member of the Wedding' and my teacher keeps urging my class to incorporate language features (such as tone, metaphor use, simile use, structure etc) from the text. I'm however not entirely sure how use such features in an expository piece- I tend to draw ideas, rather than structural components, from the text! I hope that's a little more specific! Sorry :)
