Surviving Methods 3 &4 without a tutor

Hey Guys!
I am currently undergoing Methods 3 and 4 and it has been a total nightmare. I did not do so well in my first SAC but considering a majority of the year level did terrible as well, I am not discouraged.
My reason for making this post is that as the title suggests, I do not intend to find a tutor. Although with a terrible teacher (although I should not be blaming it on him/her), I still intend to try and attain at least a 35-37 study score.
I would like to hear from those who underwent Methods 3 and 4 or any other difficult subject for that matter without a tutor. What were some of the steps you took to excel in that subject? Can anybody recommend me ways to stay on top of Methods and maybe even resources that can help me familiarise  myself with content in preparation for SACs and the VCAA exam?

Thanks guys, I'm looking forward to your replies!   ;D

P.S : Are checkpoints for Methods 3 & 4 a good place to start? I have not purchased it and have been considering. Thanks! :)

Hey

I'm actually living through Methods 3/4 this year without a tutor. Although I haven't completed the subject yet, I scored really well on my SACs, practice tests, etc, and I don't have a tutor. When it comes to things you get stuck on, check out Vtextbook, ask on the Methods board on AN, check out YouTube clips, and ask your teacher. Studying for SACs, I recommend Checkpoints, redoing textbook questions, practice tests/practice SACs given by your teacher, etc. Complete these, correct them, go over mistakes with your teacher, or ask AN if you want to be sure about a question. This way, you've prepared well. Same principle for the exams. Complete heaps of prac papers to familiarise yourself with the types of questions, and to enhance time management too.

Good luck!

If only vtextbook.com was around when I did methods... would've saved a fair bit of time.  ;)

I personally completed Methods 3/4 without a tutor and there are plenty of others who have done really well without a tutor.

As others have mentioned, use as many resources as possible throughout the year. I borrowed as many study guides as I could from my school library - 4 day limit for borrowing the book? I just reborrowed them heaps of times, the librarians noticed but that wasn't a problem.

There are plenty of guides on ATARNotes which you can read up on to help you with some certain concepts in the resources post: Mathematical Methods CAS Resources

Last thing I'd like to say is come exam time, if you're aiming for 35-37, you should aim to get all the "simple" questions correct. The end of year exam will have questions ranging from very easy to very difficult in order to get a good spread of scores. If you can get the majority of the "simpler" questions correct, I don't see why you can't pull out a good study score - I had a friend who wasn't very strong at maths, but just got very good at the easier questions and pulled out a raw score in the 30s which scaled into 40s.

All the best!

I don't have a tutor either and I'm honestly so scared.

My brother ended up with a raw of 42 some years back and he had no tutor but he's just a naturally gifted one... but it obviously is possible.
