Hi there,
I'm currently studying Year 11 Physics, and have struggled a lot. My teacher has recommended I move to another subject, even if only for a semester. I'm thinking Health and Human Development, because I plan on studying Nursing and Midwifery at university. However, as I'm going to miss Unit 1 of the subject, would HHD be worth it?
Any advice?

The subjects I'm studying this year are:

2014: Unit 1 & 2: English (Literature second semester), Maths Methods (Further second semester), Religion and Society, 20th Century History, Biology, Physics, VET Allied Health Assistance

Thanks,
Sarah :)
2014 -
Unit 1: English, Maths for Methods, History, Religion and Society, Biology, Physics and VET Certificate III in Allied Health Assistance
Unit 2: English Literature, Maths for Further, History, Religion and Society, Biology, Health and Human Development and VET Certificate III in Allied Health Assistance
Aiming to study Nursing in New Zealand when I complete Year 12

Hey!

I think Health and Human development is an awesome subject! I am in Year 10, and doing Unit 1 currently. So far we have covered simply the Health aspects (Physical, Mental and Social) and the aspects of Development (Physical, intellectual, emotional and social development). Other than this we have looked over impact of nutrients on youth as well as determinants that affect the development and health of an individual. So as you can tell, its really based on general knowledge but just reasoning behind that knowledge.

It is definitely a subject that can be done without previous knowledge (its only 5 chapters per unit, do it over the holidays if you want). Consider a Year 10 kid doing the subject, and imagine how easy it is.. xD . Also, people say it scales down, but obtaining a study score of 40-50 is not hard by the looks of past results. BUT, you may have some difficulty revising things as there are several definitions etc. Enjoyable overall though.
~got an exam for it on Friday.

 :) ;) :D ;D

My school makes us do one unit of Text and Traditions in Year 11. One of my good friends got given Unit 1 Texts and did Unit 2 Health to make up the rest of the year because she didn't do Unit 2 Texts. She found it a bit of a jump at the start because of all the definitions we had already learnt, so if you learn these over the holidays you should be able to do really well.

Health is the best subject too, please take it because you won't regret it!  ;D

Hi!
I think it is a great subject! I did units 3/4 last year and I was lucky enough to get a 50. It is a subject that is easy to do well in if you put in the effort :)
Answering your question, no. I don't think it is necessary to do unit 1 to do unit 2. In fact, units 3/4 is actually nothing like units 1 and 2 in content.. (it just helps to do units 1 and 2). I have a friend who didn't even do units 1 and 2 and she scored very highly as well.
All the best
