Getting 40

Hi,

If I go to a school that is ranked about ~50th in the state and usually gets around ~20 40+ study scores each year what chance would I be? I've done very poorly for the first GA and in terms of marks and I should scrape by with a B+ for the first GA if I get 20/30 for my context tomorrow. I've realised that I have had a notion of somewhat resigning in English early in the year due to having quite an uninspiring teacher but I've recently spoken to head of school to help me find a tutor who looked at my work and said I had great potential.

I'm really looking for a turn around point in which I will begin doing practice essays and reading the assigned books rather than writing blindly. Without getting 100% on SACS for the rest of the year and triple tenning the exam, would it be possible for me to get a 40? I've been in cruise control all year and reality has suddenly just hit me - massive wake up call, and I hope it just isn't too late and don't have to wish for a miracle.

Thanks.

One of my good friends a few years back got B+ for both GA in English prior to the exam because she despised English so much. She must have ended up smashing the exam because she got a 43 as a SS. There's always hope.

Last year I averaged A  in both GA and got A  on the exam and ended up with a raw ss of 41. I'm afraid it's gonna be an uphill battle to try and get into the 40s from this point. You'll have to smash  100% on the GA and near to full marks on the exam to get into 40s
Unit 3 overall.
English: 89%
Philosophy: 94%
Legal studies: 86%
Psychology: 75%
Food tech: 90%
Literature: study-score 24.

This isn't quite true. OP just work as hard as you can. It's still possible.

Hey 90ATAR,

definitely NOT worth giving up. We had someone ranked 35 in our school get a 50! The most important thing is that between now and the end of year exam, you improve as much as you can! A 40 in English, for someone who regularly practices their writing, is totally 100% attainable.

PM me if you want me to read over a couple of things.

Remember that less than a 1/4 of your grade will have been 'determined' and that will be moderated with your cohort against your exam score anyway! Let me know if you need any help!

Thanks for the help guys :)

I've facing the reality that kicking back in class isn't going to quite cut it anymore if I actually want to do well. I'm going to try and find a tutor (or a tutor find me (nice person PM'd me)) and work on my English. It's just quite disappointing knowing that if I begin to pull 90% out of the bag to slowly dig my way out of this hole that my rank in the cohort is completely ... GRRRRRR.

Haha yes, English 3/4 takes consistent work and time to improve your skills. Try and make every sentence of every practice piece better than the last. A tutor who can walk through that with you may be the best way to do that if your classroom teacher cannot help as well as you would like.
