Bit bored in Y11, anything you guys really wish you did in Y11 in preparation for Y12 or things you are now unable to do for the rest of the year?

Sleep. I kid you not. All I want to do now is sleep. If I had my way, I'd go to bed and wake up in a year, that's how sleep deprived I feel at the moment. Unfortunately, my 3 English essays, Literature comprehension/analysis questions, Legal SAC revision, Physics prac write up, chemistry revision booklet and the four cups of coffee I had today says I won't be going awfully crazy on the sleep tonight at least.  :'(

Well then why just my post and not hopefullawstudents?
Not saying to move his comment but yeah,
And I thought this was a general discussion forum, I kinda just wanted to change topic but whatever, I don't know all the posting rules soooo...... :P

Yeah... I kinda gave up. I have very little patience with AN these days and if people don't bother to do it right the first time then I don't really care haha

I don't think sleeping more in year 11 allows you to sleep less the next year, it just doesn't work that way hahahaha

Lol nothing much...going to start working tomorrow- been enjoying this short spell of relative freedom with utmost relish  ;D

Working=Freedom, man you are one unique individual  ;D

I'm waiting till tomorrow when all the easter stuff goes on clearance- SO MUCH CHOCOLATE to buy :)
the excitement is real  :)

As if you don't have enough already! Easter refills my secret chocolate vault, keeps me going through school  ;D

@HopefulLawStudent Another Lit Bro/Sis. That looks like quite alot for the day. i've been lazing around all day, feel bad now.

@Pi Surely there's that theory around that sleep can be stored and reactivated in Year 12 when needed.

Additional Question to AN:
Subject specific. What would you have done in your current subjects in Y11 to prep for Y12?

@upandgo Doing MM3/4 paid no attention last year  ;) Rip

@theusualstudent Chem and Spesh seem the easiest so far, averaging close to 100% on both. Any key things i must know for Y12 that will be useful for Chem?

@swagShhhhh.... Keep it down will you? ;D

try to work on speed and accuracy with chem, the fundamental skills are built in 1/2 so always try and speed it up or work on applying it to much harder and denser topics. When chem 1/2 goes to 3/4, they will throw a lot more details and figures into each question making them much more dense. Work on those skills!

Well so far I'm finding that Year 11 Chem is mostly just the 'assumed knowledge' you need to have for Year 12, if that's what you want to call it. Having a good grasp of stoichiometry is necessary, and also pay attention in organic chem. Oh and acids and bases. But I'm unsure of what your study design will be like next year, given that it's changing.

Couldn't agree more!!

Honestly, just enjoy year 11. Try something new, be social, make good memories with your friends, etc. etc. :) Don't stress about getting way ahead for year 12 and all that.
Make sure you have your good study habits nailed though. Year 11 is a good time to develop them, when things don't matter as much as year 12 and you can refine them and change them without worrying how it will affect your year 12 work.

But yeah, enjoy!! It's not long until you'll be finished high school altogether, so savour it  :P

it depends on what kind of person u are...im finding chem pretty basic so far (pay attention to writing explanations- there are key words markers look for and if u don't specifically put em down, my teacher doesn't give me the mark- even if u imply the word) , but methods (though tbh is kinda easy- or should be) i'm not getting as high...physics is legit heaven- i absolutely love u physics so much and i'm finding it pretty easy so far. umm what else. i didn't do too well in yr 11- mainly cos the mental problems (soz to go back to this) peaked last year, but I'm doing a lot better this year - like av 90 so far, and in WA high/mid 80s gets u a 99 atar (sorry i don't know what its like in Vic) but u will be FINE. enjoy this year- it will probably be ur favourite year of high school- so make it memorable. year 12 is great except its more of a sit down study year rather than a creating memory and enjoying life year. i did the first 4 chapter of methods, 4 chapters of chem, 2 chapters of physics and 6 chapters of accounting in the holidays if that helps - that is a lot of work (all I've been doing is solid study since mid november yr 11) but i started in mid novemebr straight after exams. but i know ppl who don't do any study until school starts the following year and who still do amazing- find what works for you :)

Sorrryyyy.... I don't know what the AN posting rules are. I always assumed it was just "you can't ask for copyrighted materials and don't be mean to anyone." I usually only hang around the English board these days. It was the Math board last year...

It's more like appreciate sleep now while you've still got the time to enjoy it. Because it was the sort of thing I didn't realise I loved until I couldn't enjoy it anymore. I went to bed at 1am last night because my mother put her foot down and then I had a nightmare about my oral presentation powerpoint so I got up at 5 and have been working on that ever since.

Work on your English game.

Spoiler
And make sure your English teacher is good and teaching you the right stuff. Some people just weren't meant to teach English. I wish I was joking but my English teacher last year was actually a trained German teacher. I am now suffering because she didn't offer me ANY substantial feedback all year.

Don't do physics unless you're a physics wizz and either love it or are amazing at it. Says I who was neither.

Spec is amazing. Methods is fun but don't do what this year's cohort at my school is doing and not revise any material throughout the year. Their plan is currently to revise a month or so before the exam when the school makes them.  ::)

Spoiler
PS: Literature is the best!

For methods - focus on the fundamentals. Like I really regret not focusing on the easy stuff (extremely easy stuff) because I had a pretty good understanding of it but it wasn't 100%. Let me explain: Methods exam 1 q10 D*fk that trapeziumholyshitaids* - I used the formula of the trapezium incorrectly. My a and b values from the formula were not the right values (i think i used the horizontal ones when i was meant to use the vertical values) - so my thing ended up being completely wrong because my numbers didn't make sense. To think that applying a simple area of trapezium formula is what costed me my 50 absolutely breaks me heart, but I've learnt from that and I'm ensuring that I don't fall into the same mistake this year.

So. Take out the time to do the basic stuff. Not saying you should spend equal time on difficult and easy stuff, but give the easy stuff some consideration.

And - make sure you don't study more than you need to. Like at times last year I was just studying methods and doing stuff I already knew back to front so that I don't have a guilty conscience. After about 15-20 prac exams of methods I stopped improving, but I did like 5-10 more just so that I'm satisfied. Not that I regret doing more work its just that in retrospect, in year 11 I did more than I needed to - but in year 12 you won't have that time luxury you have in year 11 so make sure you don't do useless stuff.

Wow went on a complete tangent not even sure what I'm talking about anymore

*enjoy my wisdom*
