My goal for life after VCE atm: To never do physics SACs ever again.

Have I ever mentioned my thoughts on VCE physics on AN before? ;)

I think only about how much you recommend it and the pure excellence of VCAA when it comes down to physics.

I refuse to respond to you whilst you have that display picture.

sorry but the encourage mint is here to stay  :P

Been back to back drowning in physics SACs. Had to do a physics SAC for class in Week 6. Right after we finished that, my physics teacher gave us another. And we finished up that SAC on Wednesday and guess who started another physics SAC today?  >:(

My goal for life after VCE atm: To never do physics SACs ever again.

sounds awful  :-[ my school's decided to make this thing called an 'excursion-free week' where teachers arent allowed to schedule extra curricular activities for 1-2 weeks so the senior teachers can schedule all the SACs in that time  >:(

Damn, i'm really not a fan of specified weeks appointed by teachers to have SACS in.

It sucks to have SACS condensed all into 1 or 2 weeks.

are you guys allowed to have excursions in year 12? - we aren't allowed any because we are all supposed to be study-focussed

O.o really? We had excursions for SACs (such as going to UoM for a bio prac) and school events eg. swimming carnival, I thought a lot of people do?

Really? I think I've got at least two excursions planned for this term. Granted they're both within walking distance of the school and  won't take long. It's a bit scary that you're not allowed to do a lot of fun sounding stuff in the name of study though - I think I'd die of boredom.

Going to a school camp in Queensland on Saturday for a week. Get to scuba dive and snorkel on the Great Barrier Reef!!! Only down side is missing a whole week of work which has got me a tad nervous
Don't worry about scores that you can't change  because there are so many more productive things you could do

Looking for customisable high school tuition that fits your needs? Or maybe you're just looking for some help with a specific concept that doesn't require frequent tuition. It is one week but atleast it's a breather from all the intensity haha

We don't get that opportunity in my school.

We still do excursions - there's just periods around exams, etc. that are 'excursion and incursion free' but that's for the whole school (or at least, senior school), it's not unique to year 12.

I've made the aths team again as per usual, however I'm only in the relay, and whilst the inter school carnival is on a thursday (we have assemblies on thursdays, and thus shorter periods, also in terms 1&3 when we have summer and winter sports the rounds are on a thursday, so there are no SACs scheduled on thursdays) so I won't be missing any SACs, however I'd be missing a period of methods, and I can't really afford to fall behind :/ So whilst I'd like to go, I think I won't, given I'm only in one event.
Eh, year 12 comes with sacrifices and in the end I guess it doesn't matter that much.

And SAC-wise at the moment, I haven't got any upcoming for the moment, but I have a lot of homework and study to do. Things are set to get hectic in the second half of term 2 though, my assessment planner has a lot of asterisks close together :/

Sorry for the intrusion. I hope the year is going well for you all. This is a bit of a 'random thought' post, so I apologise in advance and will utilise the spoiler function.

Spoiler
I'm not sure where you're all at in terms of what you'll be doing (or want to be doing) next year at the moment. I know that in April 2012 (i.e. my Year 12 year), I really had no idea what I wanted to do still. I still don't really know what I want to do, but I feel I have a much greater idea. Anyway, that's pretty tangential - what I came here to say was please don't underestimate the impact that interest has on your studies. That might sound pretty stupid, or pretty basic, but let me explain.

A lot of people I know, and I assume a lot of people more broadly, are pressured into studying something that they don't particularly enjoy. Chemistry instead of Music, Medicine instead of Design, whatever it might be. The foundation of this pressure can often be found in employment prospects and - don't get me wrong - this can be a valid consideration. There needs to be a balance, of course, between doing what you enjoy and doing what will be useful for you. But sometimes, the pressure comes entirely from what I will call social bullshittery. The prestige. "Don't go to University X", they say. "Don't do a TAFE course when you could go to uni", they say. "Anything other than Medicine or Laws is unworthy of respect" they don't say (or maybe they do), but often imply.

If you actually enjoy those courses (or I guess more pertinently, think that you will), then that's fantastic. But if you don't enjoy what you're studying, I'll tell you right now, it's going to be a struggle.

Most courses are what, three years minimum? Three years. That's from the middle of Year 9 to where you are today - it's not an inconsiderable period of time. Imagine if you had to spend each of those years - six semesters - doing something about which you weren't interested. Assignments, readings, lectures, tutorials. It'll all add up, and it will take its toll in the end.

You were probably told a million times before Year 12 to choose your subjects based on what you like rather than on what scales well. Same sort of deal for post-Year 12 studies, in my mind. What motivated this post was me being assigned an essay topic that I didn't find particularly interesting, even though it was within my chosen field. I've really struggled to get motivated to work on that essay, and it's made me easily frustrated. Imagine that, but considerably worse, for considerably longer.

I know that there's a lot of pressure in Year 12 - perhaps not least internal pressure - and I really hope that this post hasn't added to it. It certainly wasn't intended to be anything other than a post of friendly encouragement to pursue what you're interested in. Follow your dreams, and you will go far.

Cheers. :)

Thank you, I thought for a few years now that I wanted to do law, but nowadays I'm  not sure if I want to have it as a career. I am good at it, but I don't know if I want to spend so many years on it.
