I would not be worried,
The UMAT is hard but it isnt like a VCE subject in which you need to spend a lot of time with.
6 months, is enough ( we have a little less ) but still depending on how many hours you spend a week it would change. I plan on doing an hour a day.

Just on the topic of time management,
Try and think your way through questions so you don't do pointless stuff, like try and develop a strategy before each question and then you can exploit easy pathways of solving the question !
But at the end of day just practice! :)

I slacked off quite a bit last year (you can probably tell with my subject scores), but I'm determined to do better this year.

Repeat after me, this year is my year.

Don't worry man! The most optimum study comes from studying alongside the school. It keeps things engaging and allows you to really develop your understanding. Not saying reading ahead is bad! But no reason to loose hope! You just started yr 12 hahaha

Damn, my initial goal was to get through the methods, specialist and physics courses before the end of the holidays....let's just say that that certainly didn't happen.... :'(

I guess I'm just a slow learner  ;)

Good luck for year 12 guys! Remember to not only study, but make sure you enjoy the year. Most people find that despite the inevitable stresses, year 12 is the best year of high school :) Do AN and yourselves proud!

If I could suggest a possible alternative,
Stay a week a head of the course, I don't see the difference between finishing the WHOLE course before school vs being a week ahead of each subject. Both allow you to understand the content a lot easier when the time comes around and when TERM 1 comes around you can get a LOT more ahead.
