Guys I went to the legendary lecture by Thushan, and he signed my Physics atarnotes book.

life is complete tbh

I think my biggest VCE regret is not asking for this when I went to his lectures

how do you stop being an introvert?
like I have soo many people come up to me and ask me why I don't say anything. And say I'm like the 'observer'
This isn't a bad thing, and they don't say it in a bad way...it's just weird that in a group conversation I have literally nothing to say
and it's not cos I'm shy (i know I'm not), I just don't know what to possibly say. like nothing massively interesting happens in my life: I sleep, eat, study, study, study, go on AN, do more study then sleep again. So it's not like I have things to talk about
I'd really love to hear any thoughts :)

'

maybe...but then I feel bad for being in year 12 and not studying. besides I'm one of those people who (are apparently weird) and actually like studying. I find genuine joy in studying. But then even if I do other stuff that just adds 2 lines worth of conversation...I still end up being the quiet one :(

Hey mq123! I know how you feel!
I study when I can and when I study, I purposely ignore all the messages/phone calls I get. Solely because study is important. However, maintain a balance. I usually have a couple of hours each day I use to socialise on the media or hang out with friends. (Just don't get caught up in 3-hour phone calls...)

EDIT: Typo. I cannot spell tonight, my apologies!

brah just spent 10 mins writing a response and net cuts out and its not posted fml.

ill respond as discussion unravels... but basically: be as natural as possible coz ppl can tell when you're not.
Understand your audience - cant speak to your teacher the way you speak to your friends (if you do it's either you have a super cool teacher or super weird friends)
-- There's also general topics/ideas that will resonate with a particular audience. You gotta understand different character types and what their likely response would be. I.E talking about the liberal party with 90% of students will cause a specific reaction :P.
This extends to a lot of stuff, talking shit about school is pre much a universal student topic.
Umat is the next topic (hehe) - any aspiring med students you could easily keep a conversation going about umat for hours.

- Understand what works for you (what your character type is) - dont try be someone you're not

- in a discussion, try be critical about what you hear (this goes under general advice: be critical about everything you hear/read) - it'll lead to an interesting discussion I guess.

Do you have any specific scenarios you wanna flesh out? Coz there are a multitude of ways to tackle different aspects of this :D.

Last point: it's ok to say nothing if there's nothing to say. - but sometimes you need to keep a conversation going with someone who simply needs a conversation so it's an essential trait to have. Practice makes perfect - making a fool outta myself countless times have led me to become more extroverted :P

Hi fellow VCER's

I am currently from NSW but the threads are very inactive from time to time (and I need to boost up my post count)

Mind if I join you all in your conversations?  ;D

Cheers

There is nothing wrong with being an introvert and there's nothing wrong with being the "observer".

I sorta feel like doing nothing interesting is a common thing for Year 12's. Legit, the most interesting thing I've done in the last few weeks is watched ink travel up a chromatography plate (we did a whole tonne of chromatography and spectroscopy experiments and I have no idea why but I found TLC the most interesting, lol). idk what your friends are talking about but mine are freq talking about either one of the following:

1. Goal ATARs
2. Goal Universities
3. Future aspirations
4. What we're gonna do in that gap in between high school and uni
5. How much we're struggling with the stress/life/whatever
6. School-work

We've just been recycling those topics or variations/extensions of them for the last 6-ish months...

Feel free to contribute to our conversations! I promise we're not scary people (though Swag and the mods can be a bit scary sometimes what with how insanely smart they are).

Ahaha, thanks for the warm welcome. If only the HSC NSW threads were more active, I wouldn't of had to resort here in order to boost my post count  ;D
