Just wanted to say please don't take monash med off your VTAC preferences unless you are sure you have no chance of getting an interview. In the past people with UMATs in the 60s (with at least 50 in each section) have been offered interviews due to their high ATARs.

In the current year 1 cohort at monash med, UMAT scores range from mid 60s to 100, whilst ATAR is 97+ (not including students from rural schools). Unfortunately I can't give you an exact number to aim for but: (this is in terms of Monash med)
- okay UMAT + good ATAR + good interview = probably get into med
- good UMAT + okay ATAR + good interview = probably get into med
- good UMAT + good ATAR + very terrible interview = maybe won't get into med
- good everything = get into med (duh)

:) hope that helps - feel free to PM if you have any other qs

So I go to a Monash Guarantee listed school, and apparently the ATAR cutoff for that is 175 overall score? I got 176, so if I get a really good ATAR  and good interview am I good to go?

Also, yes that helps, thank you! 😊

I'm really not 100% sure on this but from what i can see,as part of Monash Guarantee an ATAR of 94.00 and UMAT of 175 score will mean you are eligible for a reserved place. Then they offer these places to students "with the strongest results across a range of criteria." which i assume means the interview.
Probably best to ask a school career's advisor or send Monash an email.

97+ would be fine, you'll get a spot with that type of UMAT.

Ha, still haven't decided which of the two books I'll write on yet. One of them has plenty of secondary characters & examples to use in essays yet no structure or clear overarching message to discuss, the other lacks secondary characters & lots of events but is good for talking about structure & overarching message. I could prepare for both...but the lazy person in me doesn't want to do that so I have to make a decision asap :P
I'll get on to practice essays next week, I think my main focus will be working on context and loading up on things I can talk about.

Tbh, I'm not too stressed about the exam, I know I can do it in three hours, I just need to be motivated to actually focus on english and write practice essays in order to boost my score - it's hard to get motivated to study for it though because it's time consuming, whereas I can do a heap of questions for chem, bio or methods in the same amount of time it takes me to write an essay

this.
and im kinda glad we're almost done. gonna miss school but this year has been far too stressful for comfort xD
i've already decided on my text b/c i reckon its my stronger text and its a film- so analysing it will be slightly quicker than re-reading a book of mine, plus, im not a strong english student so selecting between the two quickly was important for me xD hope everyone is doing alright :)
