Is Undergrad Medicine still available in 2016?

I'm a current Year 11 VCE student looking to apply for undergrad med in 2016. I've heard a couple of thing however about Monash removing undergrad med as an option and that only postgrad med will be available. Is there any truth to this?

These rumours happen every year. Just like the old "I've heard VCE English will be removed from the Top 4?" rumour. Rumours are rumours.

I haven't heard anything to that tune, in fact Monash has just made it so that everyone doing the MBBS from next year and onwards gets a free Honours next to their name. If something does happen, I'm sure Monash will publish it on their website, but there is no news about that and I personally don't expect to see that news (for many reasons which I shouldn't go into on here).

I think he means you get a degree titled MBBS (Hons), kind of like how engineering degrees are all BEng (Hons). Unless the university starts giving everyone a compulsory BMedSc year which would be ridiculously cool.

Yeah the former haha, makes the whole academic Honours (as a title) redundant for future years haha

I think the reasoning for this is to make Monash degrees that are longer than 3 years a level 8 in the AQF as opposed to a level 7. Probably a way to compete with Melbourne's MEng, MD, etc in the short term.

But again - this is conjecture and just conjecture.

Are they even allowed to make changes that quickly, if they were to do it?

Surely they can't if people have already chosen their VCE subjects according to the course they want to get into...
