What does one do when the class decides on a Yr 12 motto that is in another language that no one knows and the word doesn't mean what they think it means (a home, a place where one receives strength), but really means a place in a bullfighting ring? Strikes me as mad...

I tried to treat this as a riddle and figure out what motto or word it could be, but I didn’t find it lol
I can see that you’re frustrated with the motto. It might be hard to accept, but the significance of the motto is between you and your classmates, right? Regardless of the dictionary definition, the connotations and unique meanings that motto or word will have for your grade might be something you can look at positively
If seems like you didn’t know it actually meant something to do with bullfighting to begin with. So instead of donning a cynical attitude to the decision your friends have made together, it might be more fun for you to create your own meaning from it.

You get the full writing time, but you don't get any reading time you miss

Where a student arrives late
A student arriving late for a:

Written examination, up to 30 minutes after the scheduled start of writing time, will be admitted to the examination room. The student is allowed the full writing time but is given no allowance for reading time.

Written examination, after 30 minutes from the scheduled start of writing time, but before the scheduled finish of writing time, may be admitted only if all the following conditions are met:
The principal of the host school, or the principal's delegate, recommends the student's admittance.

The student is admitted into the room on the understanding that their response materials may not be accepted by the VCAA. The student must be advised of this condition and must sign acceptance of this requirement on the Statutory Declaration.

The student completes a statutory declaration immediately following the conclusion of the examination declaring:
-the reason for being late for the examination
-the time of admittance to the examination room
-they have not seen or read the examination question book prior to their admittance
-they have not received any information about the contents of the examination question book
they understand that their response materials may not be accepted by the VCAA.

Appropriate arrangements can be made to enable the student to complete the examination and that it can be completed without disruption to other students.

The student is allowed the full writing time but is given no allowance for reading time.

performance or Languages oral examination or Extended Investigation oral presentation may have their assessment rescheduled to an alternative time, provided the student has a valid reason for the lateness, which must be endorsed by the student's home school.

So does this mean that he is only allowed the remaining time that's left and no extra time?

It means that if you arrive 20 minutes late to an exam that has 10min reading time then 2 hours writing time, you will finish 10min later than everyone else. You get the same amount of writing time as you would if you arrived on time, but no reading time (at least that's what I think it means).

I would assume circumstances out of your control. ie. sleeping in would not count but a car crash would

Are checkpoints for accounting, methods and further relevant if they are from 2016? Even though the study design could have changed?

Some of it will be relevant, some won't. If you don't want to buy the new one try and get one from 2017, but the new one is best.

The current methods and further study designs started in 2016, so they are relevant. Not sure about accounting, I'm afraid

Didn't the 1/2 study design start in 2016 and the 3/4 in 2017? Or is it different for some subjects?

The new 1/2 and 3/4 maths study designs started in my year (2016)

All other subjects changed the 1/2 the year before the 3/4

You should be fine for the maths checkpoints
I'd check when the new study design for 3/4 accounting starts.
