Anyone surprised themselves with their success in Further?

I'm doing further this year, and i've just been doing General Standard previously, which I haven't found too difficult, but at the same time, I haven't been blitzing it with high marks. my average was about 70% for the year.
Anyway I'm having doubts... is there anyone who has done really well in further when previously just been doing average? How much study we're you doing to achieve the mark?

Also another thing..... TUTORS? Yay or nay? never had one in my life.. recommend them?

Well my study score for further maths wasn't the greatest, however I do know quite a bit about the further maths course.
I was however averaging about 98-100% in year 11 (general maths). Last year I wasn't doing that much study for further maths, however I did do about 25 practice exams... My advice would be to not do that many practice exams 10 should be enough, instead what you should do is start your notebook early and take note of all the mistakes you make, then when you come to exam preparation you will be able to know how to fix those mistakes, and you can use your practice exams to prove whether or not your method of eliminating your mistakes works... thats just what i think. As for a tutor I would probably say that you don't really need one, you can pretty much teach yourself the concepts covered in the subject (if you need help you could always post a question on here), however if you find that you're constantly struggling then maybe you should get a tutor.

Good luck with further maths  =)
Hope that helps

I don't want to deter you from doing Further Maths, by all means do it, as long as you study for it just like you study for every other subject. What you'll come to learn is that Further is filled with Asian who could not be bothered doing Specialist and decided to rape Further instead. Its highly competitive in this sense as well as the fact that there are trillion people doing it. Just make sure you really understand what is covered and do lots of repetition to perfect your skills. You have to be highly efficient and make no errors if you want to squeeze out top marks in Further Maths (especially keeping in mind that it could scale you down quite significantly.)

I wouldnt say it is filled with asians, Further is the biggest maths group, and there arent THAT many lazy asians wanting to rape further... but a fair percentage of high achievers in further are...

it's not a hard study, but just make sure that you understand every step as you go, it's true that it's highly competitive, and tiny misunderstandings could lead to massive losses, so make sure everything is done thoroughly, and you shouldnt have too much of a problem....

unless of course you want like a 48, in which case be REALLY REALLY dedicated.

I didn't do absolutely anything in further. I basically rejected it in favour of my other subjects which I wanted to ace. I did nothing for exam study and I did one prac exam. No exaggeration. My scores looked like this: A B B 34    Imagine what would happen if you actually worked in this subject lol

i had tutors for chem physics and methods but no tutor for further and i got a 44 in it... so you really don't need one if you want to do well (high 40's... its just stupid mistakes which will bring you down) as long as your committed and willing to put in time and effort.

Further is filled with Asian who could not be bothered doing Specialist and decided to rape Further instead.

That surely is the definition of me =] but i managed to get 43 without a textbook all year.
And now since they are allowing specialist maths people to do further as well, some people are actually doing it which adds to the already tight competitiveness.

Further is definitely a subject which u can excel in if ur just a bit more careful =)
I didn't do much work at all for further throughout the year and just by being a bit more careful on the exams, I got a SS of 50 =D

So the most impt thing in further is to be VERY careful in ur SACS and the exams and i'm sure u'll excel ^^
