:D Who is trying out for JMSS in 2015? :D
I know it is a bit early but I really want to get in!
Next year 10's will have to purchace laptops and iPads! How do you guys feel about that? At least can choose what kind of laptop you want, the Principal when I was on a tour said that students would have to bring their own laptops so I guess he already that, that was going to happen at the start of the year!

Well the 2015 year 10 will be the first year of BYOD so depends on what sort of problems they encounter it is possible they might change the program for the next year so you might end up with different restrictions.  Personally I think they are being too flexible in that the minimum specification is too general ( for example the only restriction on the secondary device is 5MP camera ) so there are going to be IOS, Android and Windows phones/tablets.  For the primary device you might end up with Windows Laptop, Macbooks, Chromebook and even Linux laptops.  I guess it will depend on how successful they are next year.

its so true. They should have made it more strict and said minimum specifications. All we need is Primary Device: More than 6 hours battery life and Secondary Device: At least 5mp camera.

It will be really hard transferring data across all these computers they need like it must be windows and only windows 7&8 they should also have a limit on the size of the device. Just an example!

Well, the school runs on the same internet as the university, and I would assume they would set up some sort of cloud/dropbox thing for us to sync our work on. I'm pretty sure it was also a requirement that the computers should be able to use Google Apps or something, so they might be using Google Drive. Not too sure though...

I think you are on the money here.  One of the requirements was that the devices must be able to run Google Apps, so I would not be surprised at all if Google Drive would be part of the whole scenario.  Otherwise the Chromebook people would be severely disadvantaged.  I think most things are done using a Web Browser, but I don't fancy doing word processing on Google Docs.  I much rather stick with MS Office.

Agreed. I'm just so used to MS office that using Google Docs sound weird.

We might not have a choice though.  We might have to use whatever the school says.  I hope not.

I wonder if I would get into trouble if I use my existing laptop ( 9' screen ) where you need a magnify glass just to read the flaming writing.  Either that or zoom in and have to pan left and right just to read one line.  Seriously who was the joker at my school that thought it was a good idea for a 9' laptop??  If I get the new 10' Ipad ( not that it has been released or I have the money ) and use my old laptop, my secondary device would have a bigger screen than my primary device  ::)

If you want to know more about the MDP go to this link:

jmss.it/mdp

Btw, I prefer MSO over GDs. There should be some sort of central system to sync our work. Why else would they let us get our own devices and have the trouble of syncing our work?
