Year 11 - Repeating a 3/4 in Year 12

Hey Guys, im in year 11..doing 2 3/4s however i think im only expecting low 40s (maybe high 30s if i did actually do really bad) and the other 3/4 not so fussed about mid 40s - 50.

After doing these exams, i was thinking if i should continue to do 4 subjects next year or repeat one of the 3/4s next year and go for high 40s OR would it be best to do another completely different 3/4, which im doing the 1/2 of this year.

Im aiming for 99+, so getting mid 40s in all my subjects are crucial. So anyone who has repeated a 3/4 or know others who have repeated, is it worth the torment again? ill definitely get a better score if i did it, but torture vs high score. Or would it be ideal just to kill my 4 subjects next year and have the two bad ones as bottom 10%!!

Feel really bad cause i did so much practice for it ... silly errors :(  >:(

TLDR; repeat a 3/4 i did this year OR continue to do 4 next year if i get 40+ in both 3/4s OR pick up another 3/4

Continue with 4 subjects in year 12, trying to balance 5 is really hard, especially come exam time and even worst if you have a shit exam timetable.

Kinda depends, if it is a subject like methods for instance , you could really destroy the competition and get the scaling rewards ( scales by like 3-4). You would have an edge over the competition and you could really do well but it does consume a lot of time. If you feel like you are taking time consuming subjects next year then I say drop it but of you think you could fit it in and really kick ass on the exams and sacs then by all mean go for it.

thanks guys. my problem is
1) this isnt a problem, but i know i can do way better next year, possibly less stress cause i know the content so could do exams from day 1 and do like 2 a week leading to exams?
2) the problem is i dont want to regret it half way through the year, im not sure if i will but usually if things get stressful id have the attitude, "it would be so much easier without this" - but then again the subject i know everything about so..
3) free periods, i could have a free period during the subject
4) exam time, maybe cause ive done the subject there will be less stress...?

If you do repeat the course, you will certainly know the content much better the second time.

When do you need to decide by?

There's no set time by when I need to decide. However I'm sourcing as many opinions as possible, the faster I can make a decision the better I can plan for next year.

Out of curiosity, what is this subject?
Either way, I say go for it and do exams for day 1. Doing five subjects in year twelve is not that difficult in fact, a lot of people will be in the same boat. Btw, if you do it next year and you get a worse score, do you get to keep your old one? If you do start to regret the taking the subject again, you could just give up and not study at all. Your bad score won't even count . If this is true you really have nothing to loose by doing it again. I say you should do it again since you can pretty much just revise previous knowledge for the whole year.

hahahahahaha i will honestly be amazed if you stick to this plan.

i say no; you'll probably end up boring yourself, and holy heckie, high 30s is seriously not a bad score.

2014 : Food Tech (40) | Accounting (35) | Art (39) | Visual Communication Design (40) | English (38) [hopefully!!]

Don't compare yourself to the freaks (I mean that in a good way) on here. You will just end up feeling bad if you get anything but a 50. And that's not easy.

Just ask yourself: have you tried as hard as you possibly could've. If yes, don't bother repeating. If no (you feel like you could try harder), consider repeating the subject.

Don't set unachievable goals; you will only feel disappointed about yourself.

Well, he did say he was aiming for 99+

It really depends on what subject it is and if you truly think you can get a better score next year. You also seem to bringing yourself down when you can still surpass your own expectations.

provided i score a 40-45 for both subjects this year and score mid 40s for the rest next year i could, but 40+ in chem and english is my only prob, not sure how hard that'll be

i did 4 subjects and i loved having all that free time to study and i had more time for assessment tasks so that was a huge bonus.

i say wait until you get your scores, THEN decide.

I have to agree here.

One of the most important aspects about VCE is actually trying to enjoy what you're learning. I'm not saying that your subjects are uninteresting but for me, I couldn't stand the sight of my HHD notes any more a few days before I went into the exam. I understand that you are shooting for the stars for a 99+ ATAR, but in my own humble opinion you will probably bore yourself out and it could even lead to some complacency going into the year by thinking 'oh yeah, I did this before I don't need to study as much.'

I knew someone who did Methods 3/4 in year 10, got a raw 30 but wasn't happy with that, repeated the subject in year 11 and only boosted their score up to 34 - which is still an improvement but it was no where near the study score they were hoping for (which was a 50)

You need to focus on taking care of yourself and trying your best. Do subjects that interest you and take this opportunity to learn something new or perhaps get some extra frees.

Trust me you don't want 5 subjects. Especially come exam time.

Plenty of people do 5 subjects in year 12 and do well.

It would be of considerable help to specify which subject you're planning on repeating.

i.e Repeating a subject like Methods is a significant difference to repeating a subject like Chinese.
With the former, it would be possible, whereas with the latter there's a real chance that you'll do worse than what you would get this year despite your best intentions.
