Exam 1 influence?

Hey guys,

Made numerous silly mistakes (like really silly ones - such as incorrect usage of product rule in first question ROFL) in exam 1.

I got 36/40 (34/35 if they are tight with method marks). Is it possible still to get high 40s (like 43-45) if I get around 73-75 in exam 2 tomorrow? Generally, is it possible to get mid 40s if my score happens to be below A+ cut off?

Cheers!

Good luck everyone

I'm pretty sure it is. Say if you net a really high A, so say A+ is 37/40 or greater and you do get 36/40, with a relatively good rank and a good exam 2 you can do well. I think 43-45 is possible with 73-75, but if you wanted to be sure I'd be aiming for 75ish given that you got an A on exam 1.

I'm speaking from experience.

Cheers! :) Do you also know, by experience, how lenient they are with method marks?

For example, I clearly used product rule but screwed up one differentiation, would I get 0 marks or at least 1?

Also, for general solutions I got the wrong base angle because I multiplied by 2 instead of divide ROFL -> consequences of sleeping at 1:30. Do they tend to give method marks, is my question, I guess..

With methods they are pretty good with Methods marks! But it depends on the weighting of the question itself, so if the question is 2 marks and it's differentiation and finding the value of the derivative at a specific point, if you get the derivative wrong but compute the value right at that point, you'll still get 1/2 iirc. But if it's worth 1 mark and you make an error unfortunately yes, you'll lose the mark because in that case the 1 mark is for the answer.

Haha don't sleep so late this time around! Ah yeah they pretty good with it! I think last year I made a similar mistake and I got all but 1 mark (if my memory doesn't mistake me). As long as the correct method is there and you got the right answer for your method I think you'll only lose the answer mark.
