Hey guys

Does anyone know what the monash on campus accomodation is like? If so, which hall do you guys reckon is the best to stay at?

Currently looking at the briggs and jackomos hall because I prefer to stay by myself with my own kitchen/bathroom.

I've been looking up, I want to stay somewhere which is decently social. I've been told the new studio apartment halls are socially dead, and the way to go is the Farrer hall.

If anyone knows, what are the rooms like in the Farrer/Richardson/Deakin etc halls?

No matter where you go, there'll be an air of sociality at halls you'll love. I have a few friends at Jackomos, and they definitely get their fill of fun activities with friends - I really don't think they're socially dead, wherever you heard that from?

My friend's an RA at Farrer (not for next year, though - she's moving into a sharehouse), and she loved the experience there, and definitely had quite a few social things going on. The rooms were definitely not as nice as the ones at Jackomos, though.

If you want to know about Deakin, simba on here goes there - in the off change she doesn't find the topic, you could try messaging her directly. (be warned, though - exams are upon us)

It's not clear on Monash's site, does the rooms other than the jackomos/briggs hall contain their own bathrooms? I don't mind sharing a kitchen since I doubt I'll cook all that often.

But yeah, I don't really care if a room isn't hotel standard pristine, but has to be decent. :p

I'd much rather prefer a hall where the community is more 'fun' rather than being somewhere where it's completely dull. I asked a few people, and they all told me the studio apartments are mostly post-grad/meds and I should aim for Farrer or the Richardson halls.

Maybe not socially dead, but compared to the old halls (Farrer, Deakin, Howitt etc), Briggs and Jacko are no where near as social. Probably due to the fact that they are totally self contained - you've got your own kitchen, bathroom ect, theres not much reason to leave your room. Here at Howitt (Been here 2 years, looking at a 3rd year now) the kitchen is an extremely social place, you run into people on your way to and from the bathroom lol. You can't really go a whole day without having a decent convo with someone randomly. Also, briggs and jacko are fairly new so there hasn't been much time for an sort of culture and community to develop there, at the old halls there's a very rich culture and community with many traditions ect.

If you want a really good social life come to one of the old halls (Maybe not normanby though, its a bit dead compared to the others as well). But keep in mind if you want better grades, briggs and jacko are a much better option...MUCH better.. also aesthetically more pleasing, but financially expensive as all hell. Old halls are around $850 to $950 per month depending on the length of the month. Briggs and jacko are around $1300+ per month. That shit is cray man...

Are the bathrooms/kitchen at the older halls generally packed/messy? Which one of the older halls would you recommend for staying at?

Also, what's the internet like? Is it still that ridiculously fast internet you get on campus?

Also, briggs and jacko are $1050-ish if you count the months as 4 weeks.
