What I said:
- something about an anaphoric reference/demonstrative pronoun
- alliteration in first line
- anaphoric reference and semantic field
- listing for sense of endlessness, more information in short space etc.

How did you find the exam?

Pretty much exactly what I said, esp the 1st and 2nd one, almost carbon copy. I found the commentary okay, even though I'm probably lacking in terms of semantic discussion :\ Also, I chose Q10 on taboo, which seems like one that was picked less - I'm assuming the identity one (Q8) probably gave most people a free pass in terms of what they wanted to talk about, very broad indeed. My essay was a little messy, ideas were a little all over the place but hopefully my expression was good enough to impress the assessors, along with my contemporary examples. Overall, when I walked out, thought I had done terribly, but upon reflection, probably better than I expected to do.

i spoke about anaphoric reference as well
i said that alliteration was present in the name of the guy sad saluter or some ish. but i struggled to relate it back to a purpose. i dont even know if it was alliteration :(
and is a collocation "high-five" a cohesive device? mind farted and wrote some bs!!!
i also spoke of listing but i put in some bs about parallelism not sure if it was though :(((
gahhhh was really short on time! and i realised id mispelt taboo as tabboo throughout my essay just as the guy said "stop writing"

If we said snapshot if referencing but didn't for some stupid reason didn't even mention the word pronoun let alone demonstrative pronoun how do you think ? 1/2?

Is high-pi as rhyme also phonological patterning?

Fuck semantic field. That's good. I said lexical repitition (lexis) and then bullshitted about anaphoric referencing as discourse. Do they both come under lexis you think?

I also said syntactic parallelism and also used the word listing cuz it seemed like both to me

I remember now, I spoke about hyponymy and personal pronouns. Hyponymy under superordinate 'greetings' and personal pronouns 'I' and 'We' to indicate direct conversation/address

1) I said the register was formal. It had compound-complex sentences and I can't remember what my other feature was

2 'This' deixis. It anaphorically references something already mentioned (greeting etiquette) and contributes to cohesion and lexical variety

3) Phonological patterning in "high-pi", rhyme. Said something like because it's a neologism-ish and it's catchy and more memorable and kinda entertaining

4) Syntactic patterning: listing. Allows Quick Fix to compact lots of information into one concise utterance for e.g "the hug (too something-i-cant-remember)". Allows the writer to state the greeting and why it is "dangerous or unpalatable" in just 4 lexemes

5) - Hyponymy - Recurrent use of lexis related to the domain of greetings (for eg "hug", "handshake" "High five") maintains the topic to be about greetings

- Deixis - "this", "it" kinda as explained in question 2. Idk if these are from different subsystems but oh well.

As for the essay, the load of BS i wrote is a literal joke. Was running out of time and didn't have much depth to it. Oh well  :-\

I hated the commentary, and I chose the 1st topic for the essay - I feel like I would have had to write a perfect essay to get a good mark..
Time was also so tight for me, I hardly had any time to think.

I do think they both come under lexis :(

How is this deixis though? When we use a deictic reference, aren't we referring to something outside of the text? I thought it was just an anaphoric reference.

I said informal too! (Edit: I actually said it was 'relatively' informal, and that it sat on the consultative to casual end of the continuum of formality) It had contractions, playful words...

DISCLAIMER: MY ANSWERS ARE MORE LIKELY WRONG THAN RIGHT.

But yeah I was conflicted between whether it was informal or formal, I'm assuming VCAA will take either, as long as there's sufficient evidence to back it up?

Um idk, in my mind they were always pretty interchangeable but you might be right

I think it's generally a deictic or anaphoric or cataphoric reference, but yeah who knows what they'll accept

The text for the commentary were the literal pits. It was so long and was pretty much two different texts into one. And due to time constraints I could only manage about 4 different features into each paragraph.

I wouldn't worry too much about seeing what people said for whether the first text was formal or informal - I definitely reckon it could've gone either way as long as you explained it well - backflipped my answer myself. I ended up saying relatively formal with informal features, giving two formal features and adding an extra informal feature to back up my point.
