consciousness questions

1) What is the link ( if any) between awareness and attention? Cab you explain how they effect each other?
2) are content limitations personal and intentional or are they subconscious?
3) explain thoroughly why consciousness is personal? I know it is personal but WHY?
4) William James said we cannot directly observe consciousness but we can through EEGs?

edit ) also, in our definition of consciousness it is stated that once must have knowledge of their own existence? explain what they mean by knowledge of our own existence?

also, if something appears in our awareness are we paying attention to it? Eg background noise in a test, we are aware of it but are we paying attention to it? So if the answer is no, then does that mean we can be aware of things we don't pay any attention to what so ever?
