Preference help: http://bit.ly/1zctBIMYo.
Firstly, I have to say the sincerest of congratulations to everyone who received ATARs today. It really is a massive day of mixed emotions. Whether you're happy at your ATAR but sad that a friend wasn't with theirs; whether you're happy with some amazing study scores but ultimately disappointed that you might not make your course - today is a crazy, crazy day.
Indeed, my students were, of course, in this boat, so I was too by default. Some were over the moon, sending me Snapchats of them dancing to EDM. Others were wondering what happened, asking me what to do about their preferences. It kills me to see this disappointment, but it's an inevitable manifestation of the high-school system.
But it's done. OVER!
Now, it's time to move on to a better system - uni. I've got good news for all of you. It's amazing. Walking into the hallways and up to the reception to get my 'late pass' during my high-school days made me want to cry. It's a different story these days. I'm in a course I love and at a university that was right for me. But it took me THREE transfers to get to my FOURTH degree in as little as two years. I was way too focussed on studying in Year 12 to be stuffed giving a wholehearted think about what course and what university I wanted to go to, and so I had a tough couple of years trying to figure that out since 2012.
Decisions are goddamned hard. Trust me, I know it better than anyone

. Decisions about preferences are even harder because like... Careers counsellors have been shoving ideas in your brain since 2011, and you haven't even experienced the courses before, so how the hell are you supposed to know which one to choose?
We know how hard this time is, because we've done it, and we've been helping students do it every year since we graduated. So ATAR Notes has partnered with the University of Melbourne, who've developed a flippin'
awesome platform for students that were like me - who didn't have enough time to think about this in Year 12. It's time-efficient, easy to use, and a LOT more pleasant than searching random courses in VTAC then googling them, so we just wanted to let you know that it's out there, and let you know that you should
check it out BEFORE you finalise your preferences, and not AFTER the first two years of your uni degree like I'm doing right now... Lol.
