Study Design - Further Mathematics

The current VCE studies in the Mathematics learning area include:

• General Mathematics Units 1 & 2
• Further Mathematics Units 3 & 4 (accreditation period: 2006-2015)

The proposed changes for the Australian Curriculum

• General Mathematics Units 1 & 2
• General Mathematics Units 3 & 4 (accreditation period: 2016- XXXX)

Does anyone know where to locate the study design for 2016?

This might be helpful for anyone studying or teaching General Mathematics Units 1 & 2 in 2015.

Now that that's out of the way, the proposed changes can be found here. I want to HIGHLY HIGHLY stress that anything on this could change. VCAA should submit the final copy some time next year (hopefully before the end of the year...), so make sure to check that when it comes out, and please FORGET about this one I've shown you.

Now, the notable changes listed in the draft for general mathematics:
1. There are now two core modules - Data Analysis is still there, however now "Recursion and financial modelling" is a core module as well.
2. Since there are now two core modules, only two other modules may be selected to complete the year. These modules are essentially the same, minus business maths of course, however number patterns is no longer on the list as well.
3. On 1 & 2, the second core module is not just business maths made compulsory. It seems to be (instead) a combination of number patterns and business maths.

Everything else appears untouched, but who knows what will change when the ACTUAL study design comes out.

this is a very interesting change

business maths and number patterns were considered by some (myself included) to be modules which killed further kids and heavily favoured methods/spec kids. now they are combining them and making it core.

in my opinion this will make getting 40  or even 45 much easier (as in more wiggle room for dropping marks) but getting 50 will still be just as difficult.

I don't know about that - I mean, my English teacher used to always say that since language analysis was the one thing that EVERYBODY was doing, it was our chance to show we were better than everybody else. I reckon that even if this new core module is that much harder, because EVERYBODY is doing it, that'll just push everyone to work that much harder in it. If anything, this could make it harder to get a higher study score.

Nah - in my experience, it's not worth trying to predict how study design changes will affect getting x study score, or ever change the scaling.
