Which ti-nspire version?

Hey, guys
I'm using the ti-nspire version 3.0.3.1791 and I notices that I could not factorise a function properly (the calculator just gave me the function that I put in). My friend however has a newer version 3.1....... and his could factorise the question. So my question is, does updated versions do that sort of thing, being able to factorise equations that older versions couldn't?

Version shouldn't make a significant difference.

What expression are you trying to factorise? Try to add ,x to the end of the function as well. For instance, factor(x^2 + 2x,x).

Also try cFactor(x^2 + 2x,x) or cFactor(x^2 + 2x).

What expression are you trying to factorise? Try to add ,x to the end of the function as well. For instance, factor(x^2 + 2x,x).

cFactor(x^3-4x^2+14x-21)

Adding ,x solves the problem, although you probably want to set your calculator to polar form.

Did your answer have "normal" factors or some crazy ones :). cause i just get these really messy factors

Yeah, mine are messy too. I think it means that it's not something which can be expressed as an exact value.

OK, thanks a lot. I just thought my calculator was playing up, but mine isn't the only one. I will try to find the problem out tomorrow. Again thanks :)

I'm not sure there is something wrong so much as the equation just doesn't factorize nicely.

There isn't really a nicer way of writing (x-2.09799) (x-(0.951007+3.01748 i)) (x-(0.951007-3.01748 i))
